My Touch HD really didn't like being out at the weekend. Despite being in a plastic sandwich bag inside my pack it got very damp. It may have been condensation I suppose, but it looks terminal at the mo!

So, perfect excuse to splash out on a new HTC Desire! I don't need to use it in a protective case, just want to make sure that it stays dry and I can use it in case of emergency. any ideas?

Ortlieb do a good one, but if it's an iPhone, look at Otterbox.

Or just use a ziplock freezer bag like I've done in the past.

I got one of these for my Nokia recently. Not sure it's fully waterproof, but it certainly gives good protection.

aquapacs work while kitesurfing, so must be good.

But my phones go in re-sealable sarny bags with no problems.

Can I have your old broken touch? 🙂

I find the best (and probably cheaper than a decent case) option is a cheap nokia 1208 or similar (about £15 with £10 of credit if you shop about), then keep it in a sandwich bag.

Then I don't have to worry about damaging a £400+ phone. Also cheaper phones tend to be more robust in the first place.

thanks. I've always had no problems with sarnie bag in the past. I really don't know why that didn't work on Saturday. Maybe I need a better ziplick one. I like the idea of one of those proper plastic things though.

Swapping sim cards around seems like too much of a pain in the @rse to me - no contacts etc.

Make sure you don't have sandwiches in the bag with the phone....

I don't swap the sim cards. I just sent all my contacts across once. And it's for when out riding. I'm not about to be doing some serious phone chat mid ride! It's mostly for emergencies. So I'll maybe want to call 999 (i can probably remember that number 😉 ) or a family member etc.

I remind you of your OP:

" I can use it in case of emergency"

Aloksacs are good. Tough and properly waterproof but work just like a sandwich bag. Had my phone in one on Saturday in an absolute hoolie on Creag Mhor and it kept in safe.

My wife's phone was in a Ortlieb rolltop cases which did the job too.

I got a Haglofs one a while back - basically a glorified ziploc bag, with an Ortlieb style rollover as well. Fits an iPhone perfectly - got it from Cotswolds.

I can help on this one - I'm a white water kayaker and probably submerge my phone rather a lot more than the average biker (I seriously hope!).

Get one of the Aquapac medium sized (link in second post). Been using one of those for the past 5 years on the river and never failed.

Be aware of the sides splitting next to the locking mechanism which is the usual fault on them after a while. If it starts to break, replace.

Only problem with an Aquapac is shock protection (none) but if you want anything good on that side you need to think of a Pelicase solution. They simply rock but unlike kayaking down a river, bikers have to work as much against gravity as with it so weight will be a nasty problem there.
