Keep seeing these cool little things on my washing line. I assume it's an insect of some sort - can anyone tell me what it is?

If they are in little hexagon tiles then it’s probably a Shield Bug of some sort.
I watched one last year lay a whole patch on a leaf.

Could be a ladybird.

That or it's a parasitic wasp which mistook your washing line for a giant caterpillar and you've this to look forward to
