Looking at a compact to carry with me out on the bike, rather than lugging my large camera around and a step up from my old Lumix TZ that's long past its best.

To date I have been looking at the Panasonic LX5 or Canon S95. Looking for something that will take .RAW, not too fussed about GPS or huge amount of megapixels or massive zoom, would rather something that captures a decent picture but allows for flexibility with manual settings when I want to tinker with things.

What do people use/recommend/have had problems with?

Thanks Russ

Got an LX5. Love it to bits - loads of buttons and lovely manual controls.

V/good! LX5 is a leading contender due to same menu system as my GF3, what case do you use for the LX5?

I have a canon g11. Pricey but lovely to hold/use. Never bother with the slr now.

I've got the Cannon G12, slightly bulky but will fit in a large pocket/cammelback. Takes great photos

Olympus XZ-1 takes lovely pictures - great lens and sensor.

One question I forgot to ask is how quick do they power up?

Aye, been having a good nose at it but think its a bit above budget for a out and about camera, well unless there's lots of trade ins/last years model discounts to be had.

I've got the S100 - but if you're not fussed about the wider angle and GPS then the S95 seems as good.

Most of the recent photos here are taken with it:

My only complaint is that it's quite valuable and I'm scared I'll break it!

I've a G11. Not as nice to use as an SLR (it's slower, mainly), but not far off. Feels tough out in the field.
