Looking for a decent bridge camera, i note the panasonic fz 45 gets all the good reviews but maybe its a bit too good/expensive for what i want.
Anyone got any recommendations for under £300?

I've recently been pondering the same thing. I decided upon a Fuji HS10, can be found for around £220 on ebay from uk sellers.
I was about to buy one when I completely changed track and went for a DSLR, bought I Pentax K-R kit for £400.

You could try a canon g series. I got a G9 a few years back for £200 I still love it:)

Fuji bridge cameras are good
300 quid means you can also afford an Olympus E-PL1 kit (micro four-thirds system)
