We ordered (and paid for) some bedroom furniture on 10th Oct. They told us delivery would be approx 4 weeks, which we agreed to.

They then called us in mid Nov to arrange delivery but advised that part of the order was still missing. We didn't want to get by so asked for them to delay delivery further until they had all parts.

They then arranged delivery for yesterday. And the delivery off the van is incomplete by the same piece that is now backordered until early January.

According to their customer services, it is a warehouse error and the part shouldn't have been booked out to our order as they know it won't be in stock until early Jan. Yet we're left in limbo having paid for goods and now having most of a bedroom suite in the garage but not a vital piece.

I suspect I could reject as an unreasonable delay if I really wanted, but what's the position on taking payment ahead of time for a stock (ie not bespoke) item. Am I unreasonable to ask for a goodwill refund of say 10% for the inconvenience / disruption?

Am I missing somwthing here? Why can't you just leave the stuff in your garage until the last bit arrives? Did they guarantee delivery in x weeks?
If it doesnt turn up then you can claim but until then I not sure theres much you can do.

Don't think it's unreasonable, but of course our idea of reasonable and the shop's clearly differ wildly - as illustrated by them leaving you with part of a piece of furniture...

because everything has been organised around a delivery that should have happened a month ago. If they'd said delivery would be 3 months I wouldn't have stripped the room and redecorated already, and wouldn't therefore be living out of boxes.

No they didn't 'guarantee' delivery but they told us they didn't have stock of an item but that it would be in stock for delivery in early Nov. On their order paperwork. Surely that is confirmation?

Well you didn't put that in your original post! I still don't think you'll get anywhere but it's worth a try. I expect they sent the delivery to help clear the warehouse.

first question, have you incurred any finacial loss?
If not, second question what are they compensating you for?

Ask them to now pay for garaging your car or come & take the other stuff away until the order is ready
