If its market day a wander round there used to be good (20 years ago). I bet they don't sell ninja stars anymore though. 😐

Yeti beat me to it. I often have that quoted back at me, and when that happens I think - if only it were real. I like owls.

If she's considering studying there then it would be good just to have a stroll around the city centre. It's small, compact and surprisingly mostly free of traffic. Market place, castle, lots of little alleyways though to me it seems like a giant shopping centre themed as a city. Castles good though. Premier league football next season too.

Visit the cathedral (the Norman one, not the modern RC one) and enjoy the serenity of the riverside cathedral close
Potter aimlessly around the medieval streets of Tombland
Pop in to the whisky shop and buy a bottle of something unusual
Climb to the battlements of the Norman castle and enjoy the curiosities of the museum within
Pay a visit to one of the finest real ale pubs in the country, the Fat Cat (also opposite a decent bike shop)

I lived down there for 6 years with my wife after uni and I was agreeing with you until the last sentence 😉

I was told that Norwich had a church for every Sunday of the year and a pub for every day of the year 🙂

In my time down there I didn't visit any churches, but I frequented a lot of pubs 😆

I've seen the big-eared boys on farms. It's all in the past now Yeti, elocution, relocation and downright denial.

Ho hum - did you like Naarich? I was in the city yesterday, could have given regards.

edit> I think you just answered my question there.

The university is a little way out of the city, but the bus service is frequent.
There are plenty of shops to wander round, the castle museum is worth a look, and a lazy stroll by the river is ok in the summer, there is also the millenium library in the Forum (you cant miss it) which has alot on the history of norwich/norfolk and its role in the second world war.

Also at the uni site, is a massive sports complex, built to olympic standard, and if you like art their is the sainsbury centre, so plenty to do and see, enjoy your trip.

Ooh yes, forgot the Sainsbury centre. I would put that top of the list as you're going to be out on the UEA campus anyway.

Just popped in here to check that the obvious Partridge jokes had been made. STW does not disappoint. 😀

I'm a Norwich boy and I'd concur with most of the above. Norwich is great for shopping, and quite pretty round the cathederal, Market place etc. Streetlife, opposite the Fat Cat is not far from the UEA and worth a look. There is also pretty good (albeit slightly cheeky) twiddly singletrack up behind the UEA sports fields.

As a Norwich dweller I would say that unless you fancy the 40-50min drive to Thetford it is not worth bringing the MTB. On the other hand there are plenty of great road rides either up to the North Norfolk coast or round the broads. The city itself is fairly nice with good shopping and plenty of top class pubs. As above the Fat Cat is the best pub I have ever been too and well worth a visit. Can your daughter not drive you home?

I did quite like it when I was there.

It is a very pretty city with decent bars and shops. We moved away at the end of 2000 and I seem to recall even more shops, bars and restaurants having been built since then.

We had some lovely summers there as well. 1995 is one that really sticks out in my mind.

Only real downside was that it was so far away from most places.

Go mess about on Mousehold heath. I had to cut through there yesterday when collecting some post from the local depot and theres loads of stuff there, which is surprizing when you remember that you're in the middle of a city.

As a norfolk lad from just outside of Norwich, i have often wondered about Mousehold Heath, will have to take a look on the bike one day, and see what its like.

i notice that the suffolk dwellers have turned up on a thread about Norwich! which is nice in a way, as i havent ever met one who can read...................

The castle is nice, but as a museum it is awful. There are some fun, but very short routes around the woods behind the UEA lake. If you really want to take you bike you can link them up with some uninteresting footpaths and bridelways around Cringleford, Eaton, and Keswick (when i used to live there (20 odd years ago) there were some jumps in Eaton Vale.

There is a good pitch and putt course near the uni, but not sure if it would be open at this time of year.

Used to pootle round Mousehold Heath in the early 90s on my Pine Mountain. UEA campus is nice for a walk around the lake if the weather is fine. Can't believe it's 20 years since I was fresher there!
