They generally were decent folk but had a very blinkered view of the world IME
I was at a Stirling Council consultation evening on proposed budget cuts. It happened the group I was allocated to was chaired by a friend who worked as senior manager in Stirling Council, and so afterwards I could corroborate what the lady said as my brain struggled to keep up.
Topic: reduce garden waste 'brown bin' collections to once a fortnight from once a week.
Statement from pearl wearing Mrs Bucket wannabe in UPPER Bridge of Allan with a half acre of garden:
"I don't know why some houses cannot have two bins and you remove them from other properties. I mean, in LOWER Bridge of Allan they are all on drugs and no-one looks after their gardens as they have to sell the lawnmower to pay for the drugs...."
An important detail is my friend chairing the group lives in an ex council house in lower Bridge of Allan...
@crazy-legs some of the places I've frequented when younger would have Tarquin and his ilk introduced to the four by clue with that attitude. 😀
Nice to see the traditions of the Grand Tour are still flourishing.
Surprised to see that much conspiracy bollox floating around in that demographic though. Shows how deeply infected our society is when it's become mainstream establishment thinking.
The aim is just winning the argument. Not critical thinking or humility or accepting that you’re on the wrong side of the argument and adjusting your views.
Sorry, are we talking posh schools or STW?

Or Hustler's University?
A year in a T2 was enough for us, but then a T2 isn't a modern motor home with mod cons. And I quite like a social life with regular meet ups with familiar faces. Being on the road some of the year is fine, all the time starts to feel more aimless and pointless than being aimless and pointless at "home".
I share your view of the class divide, I think being out of the UK for 35 years has made me more aware and less tolerant of it. But I know how to make the right noises if necessary - you could have truthfully replied "small business - festival services and set building" - because that's how they work, bullshit and bollocks. You never know you might get some lucrative work if you want it. 😉
My sister is into sailing and some of her mates are "interesting", I'm not even sure they're mates, she often refers to them as "contacts". I'm the scruffy brother who keeps refusing drinks. When I was into motorsport I found the people in the bar at Brands Hatch unbearable and was happier sat outside on the grass with a bottle of water. Yeah some people make me itch.
