[Closed] What are the chances of iPads being in any sales?

And, realistically, how much are they going to be reduced by?
I expect not by much with them still being "hot".

Zero. Sales are just to get rid of the stuff you couldn't get sell at full price so why would iPads be included?

Apple VERY rarely help support the big retailers by allowing them to price reduce on one product within a range for a day or two... I know this is happening on MacBookPro's in DSG stores tomorrow.

But iPads... LOL. NOT A CHANCE!

iPads can sell all day long at full RRP, store I work in sold more than 100 the week up to Christmas, 80 odd the week before. I don't think they're worried about the number of sales on it that's for sure, don't expect any money off any time soon. Look for interest free for 6 months offers, vouchers for your next purchase, and discounts on accessories when bought with the machine... ALL of which offered by DSG stores...

More likely you'll get a more expensive version with features you don't want plus an 'upgrade' to the OS that will render older models useless.

If you work for particular companies, or in the public sector you can get an 8% discount in apple stores.

Does that extend to iPads? Logging into the education store (via IP recognition) shows no discount on iPads.

Apple stewdent discount is a good way to knock a few quid off, and significantly reduces the cost of AppleCare if you're buying a spensive machine. All you need to do is find a stewdent; either get them to purchase it and give them the money, or if there's one in your household, you can buy it 'for them' but still in yer own name. It's actually really easy; I lived in a shared place, flatmate was a stewdent, sorted the purchase it all over the 'phone without even having to provide any proof or owt! Saved well over £500 on a customised Mac Pro and AppleCare, about a 20% saving.

Also works if you work in 'education'. This includes all teaching staff, most admin and technical staff too.

Ah, ok, but I know people who've bought iPads and iPods and whatnot with an Apple Stewdent Discount though. And they're not stewdents (have them living with them and/or work in 'education'). Maybe it's something that only works over the 'phone, I dunno. .

Bloke I dealt with when I bought my Mac Pro said that we could have any Apple product and loads of other stuff discounted, simply cos we had a stewdent in our household. All we had to do was be able to provide proof she actually was (no problem), if asked.

Maybe this does not in any way work in stores. Cos the stuff has to be shipped to the store costing extra or something like that. All I know is that it was bloody easy to get that discount! 😀

Really? What features on an iPad wouldn't you want then? And it'll be at least another two years before iOS renders some features on the iPad 1 unavailable. The iPhone 3Gs has been available for how long? It runs iOS 5.
I haven't tried installing iOS5 on my 3G, but it's four years old, so hardly an issue. There are brand new Samsung Android phones that you can't get official OS upgrades for.

Why not by a normal tablet computer that's not a Ipad, as haveing a Ipad just shows the world what gullable loser sheep you are. As you can buy a much more powerfull product at a much lower price with a diffrent name on it.
However my really problem with apple is the total tossers they employ in their stores, youre not a ****ing genius mate, if you were you wouldnt be working in a shop.

You think they call themselves Geniuses, or do you think it's a marketing ploy by Apple to call their shop workers Geniuses to help convert PC users to Macs?

Anyway, if you're so much of a Genius yourself, where has your punctuation and grammar disappeared to? 😕

As for the quote about being a sheep, iPads just work, and very well at that, and because they're popular there's a whole lot of apps that get developed for them. The concept of aspiring to being middle class because you own or want to own an iPad astounds me! Back in the 80's people used cars and houses as status symbols, but these days it is much less common. But an iPad? How can something so inconsequential be seen as aspiring to middle class? Most people buy them cos they can't be arsed with Windows any more, and want something that allows them to get on the Internet and play on Facebook quickly and readily... Hardly aspiring to greatness!

It's tech geek wannabes like you with huge chips on their shoulder that make it so easy for me to sell Macs! 😀

Sold 3 MacBookPro's to one guy today, and an iPad, all with Apple Care... £4200 in one transaction! Who said consumerism was dead eh! Probably sold £10k worth of iPads and Macs on my own today all told too... Crazy world!

What if you actually want to look like a 'low middle class twonk' though? I'm potto scum, and looking like a low middle class twonk might be an upgrade for me. Is the iPad the ideal accessory for someone like myself?

And how does a Xoom make you not look like a low middle class townk then?

My Mac Mini and my 17" PowerBook let me do what I want, when I want, including Photoshop work on large files, something I've done on Macs for sixteen years.
OS X has a Unix core, which you obviously don't realise, and Linux is ignored by most of the population with computers because they have better things to do with their lives than spend hours hunting down software to run on a Linux machine to do everyday things.
Jumpupanddown, I admire your unfailing belief in yourself, and your superior intellect, but the reality is you're just full of yourself. Next you'll be claiming that Flash works really well on mobile devises...

As far as I am aware the 8% includes all of the products in the range. When you purchase an item from the store you have to show some ID to prove you work for an approved company. Happy to be corrected if this is not the case tho...

Then, right:

what is a command line? and what is so good about it?

Excellent, that's about 99.9% of the worlds population that actually use a computer then! 😀

Should keep me busy for a while...

As for the comment about Intel chips, yes and they've been using them for more than 5 years now. Your point being?

jumpupanddown, where are you based? If you're anywhere near Worcester, where I live and work, PLEASE come in and see me at work. With someone like you around, you'd really help me close many more Mac sales as the rest of the public would want to disocciate themselves with you instantly! 😉

Get one from Tesco Direct via Quidco and get 5% cashback...not much but as the prices are generally held, it's better than a kick in the slats.

Hang on... Macs are for people that don't know what a command line is? Really?

Al of the Mac users I know (serious ones, not my wife) use the command line a lot, making good use of the BSD distribution that's under the hood. Hell, I use my Mac for a lot of stuff that my Windows machine either can't do, or does not do easily.

When was the last time you saw someone on a Windows machine repackage a cert file with private key into a format that a Java keystore can accept? Windows doesn't export them like that..
