Whitesnake frontman David Coverdale retires from music: "It's time for me to call it a day"
Rock and roll royalty retires. I might listen to some rrrrrrrrrrrrrrock this afternoon
Yeah, saw that video and thought he looked like someone's grandma who'd put her best teeth in for a special occasion....loved early Whitesnake and saw them many times.

One of the great, under rated live albums:
It's a shame but honestly, it's overdue. His voice is shot, the last time I saw Whitesnake live the band were carrying most of the vocals. Could still walk the walk though.
My first ever 'proper' gig was Donington 1990 with Whitesnake headlining. Coverdale in his prime with one hell of a set of pipes on him, and Steve Vai and Adrien Vandenburg on axe duties. Amazing stuff.
Retire In Peace.

I'm listening to it now on Spotify
I saw them at Donington 83 and I'm surprised to find there's a video playlist of the set available:
Wouldn't mind seeing the Twisted Sister set from that year but I don't think much would make it past the swear filters...
There's quite a lot of great live videos of them on YouTube. Some great albums, fantastic tongue in cheek* titles and lyrics
*tongue in cheek could be their greatest hits album
I was a massive fan back in the day. I first saw them at Deeside Leisure centre in 81 or 82 and a fair few times after that. My tastes have changed over the years, but every now and then, a load of their vinyl gets a nostalgic airing and I get drunk reminiscing. Yes the lyrics were cheesy and juvenile, but they were just a fun rocking band. Always superb live too. Along with Rainbow, Gillan, UFO, Scorpions, MSG and a load more, they were the soundtrack of my late teens and early twenties. Yes I am ancient!
Deeside Leisure Centre, Saints and Sinners Tour, Dec 82. Went to a few gigs there on buses as a transport-and-ticket deal, bought through the local record shop. Different times...

Blimey, transport and ticket deals from local record shops.....Andys Records in Peterborough through the 1980s
Blast from the past....
Andy's records in Norwich, with their very unwoke ads on Anglian tv (Anglian with the silverware knight on a horse as a motif...wtf)
Whitesnake, like UFO, never quite graduated to my mainstream....rainbow, deep purple and scorpions were my playlist alongside Pink Floyd
I saw him at Bristol Colston Hall, along with Glen Hughes, on Deep Purple’s’ ‘Stormbringer’ tour in ‘74. 😏
Not Penny Lane Records in Chester perchance?
No, I grew up in Southport.
If you haven't heard Coverdale's first Rockonteurs interview it's a good listen (also available as an audio download, obvs):
