We will be in touch
Just been told I have to have an Apple Iphone for work. Always swore I would never buy an Apple product and now I have no choice.
Managed perfectly well since the analogue days through to the smartphone revolution to avoid one. Now my kids are going to mock me.
Bugger!
If it's for work, why are you buying it?
You have to buy your own phone for work ?
How quaint.
Well not with my own money of course. But I still feel dirty.
If that's the case, your proud record seems to be intact.
Always swore I would never buy an Apple product
I'm sure you'll get over it.
@ Drac- I am sure I will. Eventually.
At least you're already past the first step. Making sure you tell everyone.
🙂
I think you will love it.
At least you're already past the first step. Making sure you tell everyone.
They already have you in thier evil clutches .
I give it 6 months till you've an iPad, MacBook Pro, Apple Watch and dress up in one of those Apple Store blue t-shirts when there's no one home.
Always swore I would never buy an Apple product
Why?

Chapeau.
Why?
Because he doesn't want one, I assume.

Seems a strange stance to take. Make a choice, by all means, but why "swear never to buy an Apple product" there's no "again" in that statement, so we can perhaps assume that he hasn't been slighted by them in the past...so the objection is based upon, what?
Company ethics? They're pretty ethical.
Profits? Sure, they make loads...so?
Design? Similar to others, nicer screen.
UI? He's never tried one, so how can he be sure?
Because others revere/have one? Possibly? My wife is VERY anticonformist and will buy an inferior product just to be [s]bloody minded[/s] different.
She married you Daffy..........
Hey, denial ain't just a river in Egypt
Why? I suppose because of all the early adopting fanboys I have to suffer at work.
Can't say I have a hatred of the company. The zealots peed me off and I suppose I supposed my position became entrenched. Doubt the people concerned will ever remember but my kids will. Everytime they wanted a new IPod/Pad/Ithing I always accused them of paying Appletax.
Saying that, I also accused them pf paying Idiot-tax when they wanted gaming mice/keyboards etc. So maybe they will just write it off as the curmudgeonly ways of the Father. Bacon sandwiches might also become free too.
Pretty sure we're past 'early adopting' when it comes to iPhones now...

The new, all singing all dancing iPhone 8? is rumored to be £1200...
Looks like we're fully entering the two tier system of iPhone Pro/iphone in the same way as Mac/Mac Pro, iPad/iPad Pro.
I;m not sure Apple Tax is valid anymore - the equivalent Google Pixel, Samsung S8+ phones are almost the same price as the 7Plus 256gb.
Company ethics? They're pretty ethical.
For an evil mega corp who loves slavery and destorying the world I guess they are 😀

The only company of the big 3 smartphone providers with an automated end of life disassembly and recycling system for ALL models of phone back to the 3G.
The only company of the big 3 (and many others besides) which has performed a full cradle to grave analysis of its supply chain.
The only company of the big 3 which attempts to enforce ethical standards on its manufacturing base in China and the suppliers to that supply chain (Foxconn)
Offers educational discounts to any student, Samsung don't seem to.
P.S. I'm not a fan boi. I have an iPhone and nothing else.
...and they even had a founder and CEO in Steve Jobs whose life mirrored his products.
A stellar performer followed by an early demise.

Only after public pressure though, and there are still ethical issues.
It's also not to say that others don't make similar attempts, it's just that Apple are the ones in primary focus and so have made more efforts to publish the information (or else face fines or falling share price).
TBF I was the same when Android was the plucky underdog, but now you're realistically given the choice of Apple or Samsung for a Long Term top end device. I've stuck with my current iphone for nearly 3 years now my previous samsung was unusable after 18 months.
I'm the same as the OP. I never really felt comfortable with the way Apple seems to make it difficult to use anything other than their products, even down to them using unique charger leads, and when everyone who has one attempts to persuade me that I should buy one it's like if you don't then you're somehow less intelligent than them.
But mostly I think it's this 😀

And there you have it. Rebel rebel, your face is a mess.
I am vehemently anti apple but when I needed a new tablet I bought another ipad.
Even though my old ipad was a piece of shit it still had a good resale price.
I once sold a non working iphone 3 for £90.

A retro thumbs up from me.
I'm pleased it wasn't wasted
SPLITTER!!! SCAB!!! etc...etc...

Plenty of other manufacturers have had proprietary connectors, Apple have always used cables with a common USB-A connector that will work with any other manufacturer's charger, while others still had chargers with fixed cables, and any one of a number of different species of mini/micro USB.
Apple kept the 32-pin connector going for nine years, before changing to the Lightning connector, meanwhile the Likes of Sony would keep using proprietary connectors and memory cards, often changing connectors each model season, and the connectors were inevitably absolute shit which would cease to work properly after six months.
Apple were the first company to adopt USB, ditch floppy disks, and while some would love to believe that iTunes uses proprietary codecs, it doesn't, and never has, unlike Sony, who also deliberately sold music CD's infected with a rootkit virus!
Android was a deliberate and blatant ripoff of iOS, after Google saw what Apple had just announced and did a rush rehash of Android which had been conceived as a knock-off of the Blackberry OS.
And isn't it odd that 'smartphones', and mobile phones in general, were highly varied in their design and functionality, and within a year or so were almost universally black glass rectangles with apps laid out in a grid.
Having ignored the first iPhone, because of its lack of GPS and other functions, and instead opted for the Nokia N95, which was, despite the glowing praise of the technical media, was a steaming pile of disfunctional crap, I bought a 3G, which was everything I wanted a smartphone to be, and everyone else's wasn't.
Having been a Mac user professionally since 1995, and having a Mac at home, why would I consider any other device anyway; none of the others, like WinPhone, would work with the Mac platform, Nokia wouldn't, you could only connect to a Windows machine, and all of their proprietary software.
Nokia Symbian had essentially the grid icon layout of iOS if you stuck it in grid mode, long before iOS 😉
Really that's all that was essentially the same between iOS and Android, a grid of icons. The rest is obvious design features for a phone. Functionality basics of a phone, Apple started with no phone so had to "borrow" from everyone else (mainly Nokia) to implement the same kind of features. The rest was UI to scale it up to a large touch screen slab in a nice way (yes Symbian UI sucked. Apple just provided polish, which isn't innovation. Quality perhaps).
Apple introduced touch screen devices to the mass market, but that logically would follow for such a device that you have icons in some kind of useful layout, like a grid perhaps 😉 . Besides, touch devices were ripped off Star Trek 😛
Win Phone chose to be different, but few people liked having something that didn't look like Apple 😉
Connectors - yes they all had different for ages, but there was a near universal agreement to sort this problem out and they mostly standardised on micro USB. Apple did not.

Nokia had Mac software. Win Phones connect with Mac OSX / iOS no problem, and also there is a rich selection of Microsoft apps for iOS (and Android), in fact some that aren't even on Win Phone or are better than on Win Phone.
If you don't like it then don't use it.
Do what my friend did who worked for British cycling, he took the blackberry and left it in the box and got them to contribute to his iPhone contract.
When he left the job he just gave back the worthless blackberry unopened in its box.
Nokia wouldn't, you could only connect to a Windows machine, and all of their proprietary software.
I used to tether my Nokia n95 3G connection over USB to my MacBook.
The phone was crap compared to an iPhone though.
