Can I force my Chrome browser to refresh a web page and not use the cache?

I have updated this page so the paintings should appear as : First Sight, Night, Vacation, Baby
https://www.nicksartstuff.com/the-first-series

I don't want to clear the whole browser cache as it is useful but want to check the order change has happened.

If you do go to the website, any other critical feedback welcome as I am currently playing with update ideas.

Ctrl + Shift + R should get you a full reload of all content in Chrome.

However that will only update your browser - other returning visitors may still see cached content. It might be worth giving images and stylesheets new names if they've changed.

Otherwise you can change the cache-control headers[1] in the webserver, but it's years since I've done that.

[1] Headers that will tell your visitors browsers whether and for how long to reuse the version of the files they fetch this time.

F12 to open dev tools, go back to your main website window/tab while the dev tools window is still open. With CTRL held down, right click on the reload button, and select 'Empty cache and hard reload'

(these options do not appear if the dev tools window is not open)

CTRL & F5 is another option.

As Toby says, you need to think what other people are going to see too - if they don't do CTRL-F5 then they ain't going to see new content so could merrily sit there not know there is new stuff.

If you do change anything then I'd suggest new names for images as that'll go back to the server for the content. If you have a CSS file, then I've seen a lot of companies do something like
'my.css?v123' (and change the v123 each time) as that'll get the browser refreshing it.

Looking at the markup it seems a lot of code to have four pics in a row, espcially since they don't seem to shuffle around if the browser window gets smaller so you're going to look a bit strange in mobiles - the detail pages are the same - I'd be looking at making them more responsive to different screen sizes.

(Also, that wood effect background image is possible a bit low resolution as it is starting to look a bit fuzzy on higher res monitors)

Thanks guys.

The fuzzy background is an abstract painting which I guess I can try to get in higher def. To Do

The code etc is all automatically generated in Wix website editor so I have limited control over that. 🙁

Changing the picture names to force the changes should work. To Do

Wix reckon their designs automatically work on mobile as well as monitors but I will check on my phone. To Do.

Thanks again and any other hints and tips are welcome

Looks ok on my phone. The pictures just appear one below the next instead of side by side and they appear in the right order too!

Ah, wasn't sure if it was your code or not.

I was just moving the browser size in and out - it might have worked if I'd have refreshed the page at a different browser size - so use to things working dynamically with our layouts.

Yeah - I am no website coder so went for the easy (less good) option.

There are only three truly hard problems in computing: optimisation; cache control and naming things.

As above - load the dev tools and choose the hard refresh and clear cache option from the refresh button.

I was going to suggest some form of version control - even on solo projects it's very useful - Ctrl+Z only gets you so far! You don't have to go down the whole dev/test/production branching malarky but being able to isolate changes is a huge benefit. Not sure how it might work with something like a website editor, they may have plugins or similar to allow use of something like Git.
