Whoever you use, make sure it's your email address that is used to register it and make a mental note that in 2 years time it will need renewing.

I am very happy with fasthosts.co.uk and they have fairly good IT support too. I think they may have a special offer on the .com too.

1and1 were pretty good for me and their details appeared on whois, not mine.

I've used http://www.123-reg.co.uk/ for years. Cheap as chips and no stupid ideas.

Probably indicative of them actually owning it rather than you making it impossible to transfer. You'll also find they will up the charges to silly money after a couple of years which you have no choice but to pay or face bailifs because they have no cancellation system.

For domain registration I'm happy with 123-reg. Their fees seem reasonable & I've had no problems setting up all the redirections etc even though I don't really understand it all. Hosting I don't know about, you'd probably host any site elsewhere.

I've been with Domainmonger for 8 years now. That i've not changed in that time says it all really.

www.123reg.co.uk - nice and cheap and dead simple, plus they email you a 60 day, 30 day and now a 15 day reminder when a domain is approaching renewal time (suspect most companies do that though).
