I’d buy on a bracelet and get the rubber later. You should defo buy one though. They are lovely watches
So a bit of lunch, sweating, and worrying about ever bumping into Kato, ended up here:

They’re going to be a bit of a thinning out of the collection when I get home, but this was a rare occasion of right place, right time and a watch that fits and feels perfectly. I will were this more and with less fear than the Superocean Heritage as well, and am very please to own a co ax movement!
The Promaster is Jnr’s my first proper watch.
That’s a lovely watch Kryton.
Well done, nice watch, I reckon Jnr will have his eye on that before long!
👏 And about bloody time 😁
I second absolutely everything gaidong says about the pelagos (except driving off a cliff) and although I dislike my perception is the original 42mm pelly wasn't, in fact or seemed ignored while people fornicate over the bb then bb58. Now the smaller pellys exist they seem to get a lot of hype and the full fat still gets ignored. Well..... ignored in as much as any tudor.... it is the brand that seems universally w@nked over!
Kryton, I paid £3600 for a new one..... but that was when they were £4500. That was on bracelet. As said buy on the bracelet then get a strap of you want. There are some super sub 20 quid silicon straps, or good vulcanised rubber such as rubber b or Zealanders which are far less than the oem. You can also get decent snide deployants for about 20 quid if you want. My bracelet still has the stickers on and the watch wears a black sailcloth with white stitches and looks incredible. Black with red stitches, black, white or red rubber also really work. I may try a red sailcloth soon too.
Boblo, kato and I speak the truth.
And about bloody time
Ha Ha cheers. The AD had a difficult time and probably should have thought to ask my profession before we sat down, so £600 off the UK rrp including CC fees, £300 of international warranty extension to 7 years and a half price Promaster wasn’t a bad day out. I am very happy indeed. What an amazing piece of mechanical time keeping I’m so lucky to own. He threw in a silver necklace with pink topaz stone tat-trinket for my daughter too.
Mrs K looked at the box and went “FFS, how over the top” 😂
A fantastic choice mate. Seems to be a very popular watch around here! You won’t be disappointed with it
If you think the Seamaster box is over the top, you should see the size of my Moonwatch box and it’s ridiculous paperweight thing 😂😂
Anyone had or got experience with Lum-Tec watches.
Looking at a beater solar dive watch and have come across this:
https://www.lum-tec.eu/eshop-fr/collections-d-marine/lum-tec-special-ops-marine-4/
Also looking at the Seiko:
Any advice or alternatives greatly appreciated.
@scapegoat re. getting strap for your Omega, I've had this very well used SMP deployment clasp in a drawer for fifteen years or so. The navy Omega rubber strap is FUBAR'd, but the clasp is a replacement pin and a good polish away from being ready for a new home. Yours FOC if you can wait a couple of weeks.

What an amazing offer Pisco to Scapegoat. You should have your hand ripped off and then arm chewed up to the armpit. Very very generous, bravo.
Inbred853 - Unless you are a special ops marine I would go for the £299 but often in sale Citizen "Ray Mears" reissue and not the older "Royal Marines" printed one - for the same Walter issues.
Cheers Wally but I'll give the Citizen field watch a miss. Most numbers on a dial for me would be on the cardinal points and slightly less LARGE😁
Hopefully something else out there, Seiko might be worth tracking down for a try on. Lum Tec still a runner but probably to much of a faff to order and send back if I don't get on with it.
I love the Pelageos of gaidong’s, I nearly bought a Pelageos a few years back, only a black one rather than blue, but I stepped back because I just couldn’t justify the cost.
Speaking of which, because the insurance company holding my largest pension plans is being an arse and dragging out the whole process of getting the money to my financial advisor, I decided to stop the purchase of the new limited edition Rallygraf before they finished the production process and got a refund. I based the order on the expectation of a chunk of cash arriving in plenty of time, but it hasn’t happened yet so I’ve got the money back and stashed away just in case of an emergency; things are a wee bit tight at the moment, with just my state pension coming in.
Once everything is sorted, I may well get a Yema NavyGraf, they do an official French Marine services version all in blue like gaidong’s Pelageos, which is nicely understated and somewhere around £800-ish, so affordable.
Those Omega Seamaster models I’m afraid just don’t float my boat, if you’ll excuse the expression - I don’t like the large facets on the bezel, and I really do not like the hands! I’m not keen on arrowhead hands on any watches either, Seiko, Rolex, Omega… my favourite Seiko is the MM300, I love the hand set on that, and the Tudor ‘Snowflake’ style as well. Can’t say I’m too fussed about the Rolex ‘Mercedes’ style hands much either, they’re so common on so many other brands, or seem to be I’m amazed they get away with it.
One thing I particularly like about the Pelageos is the fine milling around the bezel, lots of grip with gloves on, some can be a bit slippery if you’ve got wet fingers; my SPORK isn’t quite as grippy as I’d like sometimes.
Not that I use it that often.

@Kryton57 that’s a lovely looking watch, cracking deal too, enjoy and good to see you’ve finally got there !

Thank you all. And I think you are right. I’ve woken up having sleep with the Omega 😂 and you’re right it is the perfect non fussy, not overbearing highly engineered and well respected piece that I can easily live with daily. As I intimated, the stars aligned. I was standing with the AD with (another) Superocean on my wrist and he said “have you considered Omega?” I replied with “Kinda, I saw one yesterday with a white dial on black rubber (Kato’s) which looked stunning”. He stepped to one side and said “you mean like this one…?” The rest you know, it was fate lol.
No we can’t possibly close this thread, it’s been a source of constant info, wonder, experience and learning for me and many others and it continues to be so - long may it continue!
For me, I’ll be thinning to defer to high end / collector now, with 6 watches remaining only (SMP, Aquaracer Chrono Vajoux, CW Compressor, Samurai, Arnie, GW6900). I have an aspiration to achieve a black/white Navitimer on retirement, but before then I want to learn more and find an old, historic piece in a “bin” that can be kept/revived for collectibility - kinda keeping some history alive sort of thing to pay my dues. I’ve much to learn before I find the “right” battered vintage watch that deserves longevity.
Anyone got a G-Shock GBD-200? I'm tempted to get one in the dayglo yellow/lime colour
Continuing the love and respect for all you Omega/SMP owners out there.
Trying arty/action shots like Gaidong and Kryton. Bonus points for a bike in the background

Anyone got a G-Shock GBD-200?
Yes, it's great for telling the time and being robust, but all the connected/tracking functions and the associated app are gash. I'd get this one instead. Or I'll sell you mine for a good price, and I'll have one of them instead. Mine is the blue one.
@CountZero, that Navygraf is on my shortlist of my retirement watch gift to myself next year. I've not seen it in the flesh but I'm really taken with it.
Nice watch Kryton - really lovely
@SSS - you’ve captured the theme well, just the right amount of out of focus.
Do we close the thread now ?
Depends. What's this AD's returns policy?
What’s this AD’s returns policy?
Too late, I got it wet:

You wont believe how many pictures it took to get the appropriate level of bluriness.
As I don’t have my readers with me at the pool, it’s kinda hard to judge to be fair. First world problems!
Is there any point in having a posh watch if you can't see it? 😉
One day you’ll get a shot in focus
That's a shocker even by Krypton's standards. Full daylight, autofocus - you only have to hold the phone fairly still and the right distance away FFS.
Just imagining 20 blokes around a pool in Greece taking photos of their watches.
One of the original out of focus watch pictures. Josef Koudelka

To be fair I’m using Portait mode to get the background blur with wet hands trying not to drop my phone while moving it back and forth into the indicator goes yellow to take the pic. Anyway you get the gist. I can’t get the hang of taking good photos with iPhones these days, and any video I’ve watched is so horrendously complicated as to make a decent “snapshot” an impatient affair.
Liking the look of Simondbarnes Animal, good choice of strap!
Liking the look of Simondbarnes Animal, good choice of strap!
Cheers. I'm still hoping to find my other Animal, it must be in this house somewhere!
Ooh! Ooh! Just got tracking details telling me my SMP300 arrives tomorrow 🥳
Another one! Look forward to the pics…
@ctk. A pool. In Greece? Get in the sea!!!
Go on a watch forum and the wristshots will be far more... We've seen many beautiful watches and happy owners on this thread and we're lucky not to have shots of APROs draped around the neck of rare malt scotch bottles or here's my Patek and Bentley combo.
@sss, I'm trying to think of my favourite SMP reference. I think it was 2000s and had, possibly seven, large red indices in the top sector of the dial.
Edit. Something like a 2234.50.00. Steel bezel, GMT and no.... HEV! Actually, even looking at standard SMPs of the period, the HEV seems smaller and less designed to draw attention to itself.
Goddit! Jacques Mayol APNEA edition. https://www.omegawatches.com/watch-omega-seamaster-apnea-25955000
@gaidong Yours for the princely sum of £2097 of your finest British Pounds! Its in Kobe, Japan and considerably less expensive than others
https://www.chrono24.co.uk/omega/ref-25955000.htm
I'm turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese, I really think so.
Much better for snorkelling than that (defunct) Reverso 😀
I don't have any fine British pounds 😭😭😭. Well, maybe a hundred squid in an old Halifax account. I do have 'one-night in Bangkok' later this year though!
its handsome but im not sure i could pay £750 for a Timex
https://timex.co.uk/products/giorgio-galli-s2-automatic-38mm-tw2w12700
Coincidence or am I being monitored by some secret watch bureau ?
Today I receive an email from beaverbrooks - titled “Ready to find your dream OMEGA watch?”
🙂
So today I are mostly putting a Watchgecko Milanese classic on my scruffy old Hamilton…..
Nice, still waiting for the SMP?
Went through an online iPhone photo / settings tutorial this morning including “the rule of 3”, suffice it to say I now have pin sharp pics of the SMP, and a cup of coffee. I’ll spare you as I’m sure you’ve seen enough 😝
Nice, still waiting for the SMP?
Yeah tracking details haven’t updated so it could even be tomorrow now 😏
Come on Kryton, get artistic!
I'm intrigued by the Timex's injection moulded stainless steel case...
A little bit of Google later, it looks like a pretty cool process and suited to a low volume product of this size.
https://sinotechltd.co.uk/metal_injection_moulding.html
I tend to think you'll get something much more interesting when somebody like Timex decides to push the boat out. If I "needed" something like that and had that budget then it being a Timex would definitely not hold me back, if anything it would be a positive.
They make a really nice ti field watch which is also above their usual pricing and it's one of my favourite watches - until you see the text on the display case. If it hadn't been for that then I'd have long since snapped one up despite it "only" being a Timex.
I bought a relatively pricey Timex Expedition and its fallen apart quite considerably. Compass stopped working, crown wont stay in, strap fell apart etc
On the other hand I bought my son a £30 Timex illuminator watch and its been absolutely fantastic - great watch for the price.
Timex Indiglo is genius, I had one rebadged as Eddie Bauer in the 90s, very practical, much better than lume if you have a quartz watch,
<span style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);">an in focus(!) shot of todays option: </span>
I just can’t find the love for the 5610, but I do like this 🤷♂️. A bit of cave exploring today is the reason behind the choice.
Are you Batman?
Keep your watches covered up or at home peeps, thefts on the rise! Mainly attributed to broad daylight city thefts

A colleague had a lot of fancy watches and had them all insured. He was mugged for his £10k Rolex in the loo of a pub in the City of London. He simply used his police incident number and got his money back within a week - apparently it's a very common type of theft but usually involves distraction and zero violence. He reckons it was about £200 per watch for the policy. He's since sold all his fancy watches as he needed to renovate his new house and he now wears a Citizen Eco-drive field watch.
@Kryton
Most of my G-Shocks only come out for the odd occassion now and this (the complete antithesis to this thread 😉 ) adorns my wrist 95% of the time
The background is a nice army green, but the camera won't pick it up

Bin dun 😉
@Scapegoat Excellent choice! Happy new watch day and welcome to the SMP club 🙂 Love the colour.
There's some lycanthrope-esque wrists on this thread!
'scuse my ignorance but what is an SMP?
I've just sold my Timex Marlin sub-dial auto' on eBollocks.
The acrylic "glass" and the pointless 24 hr sub-dial were getting right on my tits.
To be replaced by this new offering from Baltany Watches:
SMP = Sea Master Professional
@derek_starship that Baltany looks good. Khaki Field vibe with a luvverly blue dial!
Nice one @scapegoat, looks lovely I hope you are enjoying yours!
<p style="text-align: left;">Yay for you Scapey! Good to see so many stwers with good taste! I like the blue too, although it's clearly not as good as the white and black colourway.</p>
I feel we need a StwSmp meet up!
It seems rolex bought Bucherer yesterday. Intriguing move.
that Baltany looks good. Khaki Field vibe
I'd go a little bit further than vibe... it looks to be a direct copy.
