Any good suggestions for watch podcasts I might have missed?

I quite like the general TGN vibe but it has very much become the "which rolex/tudor for...?" or, if their artificial budget constraints don't stretch that fair, then it's "which 2nd hand rolex/tudor for...?" which is starting to grate.

I can't remember the last episode which didn't generate at least one eye-roll for this so wouldn't mind some new listening material!

New Watch Day! 🙂

Long post but I can't get the pics to work, so deleted for now 🙁

Long story short, a steel/blue Luminox Atacama for just £200 from TK Maxx, bargain 🙂

While I’m clearing stuff out, any interest in a Ball Deepquest? 3000m waterproof titanium monoblock loveliness?!

I really hope that's not a euphemism

😂 it’s a bit of an unfortunate name when shortened. Perhaps better to give it its full title-Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon Deepquest!

Is it only one you're selling @kneebiscuit, or are we talking about Balls Deep(quest)? IGMC

Actually I won't get my coat, as it's bloody hot here in Bangkok, but I might get my umbrella and head to the Siam Paragon to do some ultimate top notch watch pervin'!

New watch day. My first ever G-Shock 😀

In the winter wet muddy weather, the wet NATO tends to rub on the wrist too much, so the new Casio should help with that especially on the longer rides. Little bit bigger than the SMP.

Gshock

New watch day. After trying loads on over recent weeks I ended up getting another SMP. Bought the first one nearly 25 byears ago, its mid size 36mm. Although I set out to get something different I just liked this much more than anything else at the price. Have a rubber strap coming too. Not the worlds best photo. Looks much sharper and less flat in real life.

Agreed there is clearly something wrong with me😆 I didn’t even try the white one on. Mind I was concussed recently so it could be down to that. I’ll take another photo when the rubber strap arrives and try to highlight the green to see if I can do it justice

Oh it's the seaweed?  It looks black. Tbf,c they are all nice colours.  I've not seen a green in the flesh yet though.

It appears more green when I look at it directly but definitely hard to appreciate in photos. Also appears more green in natural light. I'm sure a big green rubber strap will push home the theme. The black has Seamaster written in red iirc, wheras the Seaweed text is all white.

Nice choice DJ.  I thought it was black as well, the green is very subtle.  Nice, will look great on a dark green strap.

My friend (yes really) has just ordered the ‘summer blue’, I don’t mind any of them in reality.

OMFG:

as in OMFG, that’s hideous?

“as in OMFG, that’s hideous?”

I can’t do the quote thing as STW seems broken again, but yes hideous and hideously expensive for what it is.

I find the quotes hit and miss, sometimes they work and sometimes it’s gobbledegook.

What I can agree on is that CasioOak is a solid NO.

Since when has baby blue and pink been 'Pepsi'? Not a fan of any Casioaks actually,  but that's probably a me thing.

Looking for a replacement white leather strap for one of my wife's watches. 19mm lug to lug and 18mm at the clasp. Watch Gecko doesn't seem to do a white strap. Found The Strap Tailor
https://thestraptailor.com/product/epsom-calfskin-watch-strap-white/
any experiences or any other recommendations (cheaper would be excellent)

Not cheaper but Hirsch straps are very good quality, had three or four of them over the years

19/18mm is an unusual combination. You'll probably struggle with something that's not custom made.

I think that’s a Seiko size 19/18mm.

I probably wouldn’t recommend their straps even if you find one though.

Like that - definitely stands out from the crowd. Some design cues from the Bigeye?

Very much so. They reference it in the spiel on site. I had purchased a Swann, but I found it a little illegible in certain lights, due to the chamfering on the hands. They released some preview snippets of this new chrono series, so I returned the Swann and pre ordered this. Really pleased with it

@Saccades - that’s a very nice SKX  mod, the handset is close to the MM300, and I like the face as well. 👌🏻

What's peoples thoughts on taking watches to holiday these days?   I've just watched a Vid about a bloke murdered for his Breitling, and another whose hotel safe was emptied of watches,  suspected to be by an employee with a common key.  Its got me thinking;  Its nice to wear nice things in nice restaurants, but actually should the good ones stay at home?

I'm seriously thinking of not ever taking a watch roll / multiple watches again abroad again, and getting Casio Duro or getting back the G-Steel I sold as a holiday watch notwithstanding the Samurai and Arnie are probably not going to get me mugged.

?

I don't take multiple watches.  I take the beach beater (steinhart) which is smart enough..... but then with 3 young kids I don't go to nice places needing a nice watch anyway!

If you do then use the hotel safe,  not your room safe.

Depends where I’m going - bit like Uk.

South Africa and Brazil it was a Casio all the time but currently wearing my Rolex in Lisbon and wore it in Tirana too. I tend to wear it lots overseas without really doing much of a risk assessment and there’s probably more chance of getting rolled for it in central London

Don’t really get taking a watch roll. Usually I only ever take two watches on holiday if I’m taking one of my good ones which isn’t luminous then I’ll take either a Casio or seiko as well or if cycling a lot on holiday.

Thats interesting, I dint think of being locations specific.   The Breitling guy f'instance was wearing a full gold watch in the depths of Brazil.....  sounds stupid.

I had my arm grabbed once in Barbados by a conductor as I boarded a bus, I wasn't wearing a watch of note and in fact cant remember which one I was wearing, but it must of reminded him of something.  Even now I'd only wear a "nice" watch out to dinner where it can be under a shirt on a bus / cab.

The G-Steel, perfect for a kids holiday without looking likes its from the 80's and doesn't cause concern during pool tomfoolery 😀

@kryton57 Don't forget to tell us where/when and what watches you're taking so we can make some informed (mugging) decisions... 🙃

Ha - it'll likely be the Vostock Scuba dude GMT batman - $69 and likely not to fail a Spanish pool holiday, plus it also looks half respectable.

I've posted pics before, it's this one:

And while I was looking for that I found this wonderful 16 min video that "explains" the many facets of Vostok's such as compression waterproofing and clutch crowns for thot would be interested:
