@gaidong that FF is super!  It's a chunky monkey though isn't it!  I believe they just released some new models shrunk to 42mm at last.  They are all beyond me though!

really well engineered

Well the bracelet’s a bit rattley but yes I’ll be able to tell the position of the moon accurate to 1/4s for the next 76 years and within 15s after that according the manual.  🙂   30 month reserve as well.

Unless I flip it’s the last for a while, my watch box is full despite my attempts to halve the contents and a new bathroom is emptying the purse.

@Neil, I tried the 42mm 5010 in the Paris boutique two weeks ago, alongside the 5015. I get that's it's more wearable for many people but on my 7.5 incher (whoa there!) it didn't feel like the real deal.

@Kryton, looks good, enjoy!

@ElShalimo, a 'true' worldtimer gives you simultaneous world times, so they are always busy dials. I don't know what your gaudy threshold is but the Chopard case is actually very restrained and mostly with a brushed finish, so hardly a bling monster. I'm not throwing shade on anyone else's choice, there are lots of very expensive watches that can give many timezones but are not worldtimers: the IWC Timezoner and Breguet Hora Mundi being some examples. I get it that you don't share my tastes, that's fine, but this thread is surprisingly judgemental at times.

I love the different looks and complications.  YMMV on the looks of course but it often leads me to learn how they work / are assembled and why they cost what they do.   As I’ve said many times on this thread, I consider it a fantastic horological education.

Sorted my box out yesterday, 4 keepers, 2 on the fence likely lasting until a grail and 6 cheap ones including 2 G’s.   I may thin down the cheap side in the coming weeks to leave a G 5600 and the Citizen as budget/backup/shed daily’s.

Right, Jody’s provided a limited preview of his GADA, so it’s off for YouTube and coffee.

Just shat myself when I spotted my Suunto watch appeared to be badly smashed. Turns out it was cat hair.

@gaidong - don't worry about it. I'm not saying you're a bad person or anything.

I'm just commenting on a watch thread that I don't like a watch in a photo.

I'm wearing a G-Shock today again.... each to their own. You'd probably hate it

Maybe, but it's just other people's opinions and everyone has one. Due to the medium of it being delivered, it can appear a bit binary. In my own case, my opinion is delivered with a side of piss taking/bantz so not altogether seriously. It's hard to tell this when it's written. Someone told me years ago, just imagine the person grinning whilst they're writing rather than assuming the worst... Good advice.

I bloody loves it I do!

It can't be bad if it's got you talking like a civilised person!

I really like that, the Blood Moon variant particularly. It looks way too big for my current tastes though, my wrist size has shrunk lately from 7½ to 6ish inches and 42/43mm is really pushing it a bit.

42/43mm is really pushing it a bit.

Have a read of the reviews, they say and  I agree it wear much like a 41.   I've a 16.5cm wrist for example, and my pics always seem to exaggerate where the lugs of my watches sit - this on is easily "inside" my wrist with no overhang.

You can order them on Amazon, which gives you the opportunity to try it on and send it back for free.

Has anyone got a Suunto Core, either red or yellow, on a nylon strap? Can you post a picture?

The rubber strap seems to be only available on the black version.

Thanks but even though I'm not refitting a bathroom it's a bit spendy for my current finances. In any case my grab-and-go/radio-timed/solar-powered/quartz need are met by my Casio Lineage in a 40mm case! It displays 2 times concurrently but sadly I'll just have to just remain clueless about the moon phase.

A little eBay project/present for my daughter. Bought cheap with the telltale "needs new battery", ie not working. As expected, an old battery had leaked and the movement was toast. I was expecting this but knew Junghans only put branded movements in, so an ETA to match was sourced from  eBay for a tenner. I chickened out on swapping them over though I have done it before, but the hands weren't lifting for me so a local repair/battery place did it for me for not too much.

@El Shalimo, I have G-Shocks! Namely a square, which I wear when I (occasionally) do some mountain biking. As I said above, it's great we all have different tastes, else we'd all be wearing Submariners, or variations thereof, but the "new car priced' phrase was the teller for me. There are minging watches at every price point, and gems too, so the cost of a watch seems irrelevant to me..

You're dead right. I've not had the app on my phone since a couple of months after I got one of those. I'd much rather it synced to a a radio signal and was, after that, just a watch.

I only use mine as daily watch and step counter. The App is crap even for just changing time zone

The display is fab though

If it makes you feel better, I hate G-Shocks 🙂

I've just sent the Seiko 5 7s26, that I bought 25 years ago with some money my parents gave me when I graduated, off to the Seiko service centre as it stopped running about three years ago. A movement service and new crown and stem is going to cost £150, for a watch that cost me £80, that I could replace from eBay for about £50. But it wouldn't be the same watch, would it...

They'll likely just put a new movement in it. But £150 isn't an outrageous price for that job.

@Elshalimo I've got a DW-H5600, and I'd agree with you....would be better if it was a solar powered MIPS G-Shock, rather than the smar****ch it isn't...but I love the look, comfort and clarity it offers.

In terms of world time usage, I love my Citizen AT8188-64L....super-easy to use...looks better than any posh Swiss watch I've owned and I'll never meet another owner.

Yeah, it’s hard to capture, either I don’t have an eye for the correct angle or I need to create and be able to post a little gif with movement to show the glinting and sunburst effects.

The only issue - which is not an issue for me TBH is that the lume is poor.   But it’s the other side that’s good to look at too….

IMG_5434

Of course whether it’s needed or not is debatable, but it’s nice to see the compressor spring.

You're obviously not happy with the exposure but you've caught the dial beautifully. I can't say I'm a fan of the minute track though, it's far too busy for my taste - why the separate track of ⅕ divisions when it's not a chronograph?

Everything else I like, and a very nice strap pairing - who's that one by?

Steer clear of the "black sand" dial versions.  The Super Compressor texted is infamously off centre.   I sent mine back for that reason but never replaced it.  Once you see it you can't unsee it.

I have a king Samurai, I really like it and IMO it’s worth the extra especially if you can find it on discount which you often can.  Watcho are very good, they currently have the Lagoon for £395:

Yeah I had a Save The Ocean Turtle the Manta Ray one.   Lovely watch, I'd have another.   Don't be put off by the case size as they wear smaller than the figures would have you believe.

If you get one with a bezel that lines up and a cyclops that isn't wonky then you've won the lottery!

@kato I think that's why I'm drawn to the Prospex. I like the larger case with the machined bezel.

I've always had a soft spot for a Seiko after lusting for an Arctura and luckily getting one for my 30th.

23 years later and I'm slowly moving from having a smart watch to wanting another Seiko. This thread is to blame as there's been some stunning watches.

No.  Its like a cheap looking take on an (ugly) Zenith defy.

I don't mind cw homaging/ taking inspiration from others designs.  I like the numerous c60 that look very seamaster.  I don't like the defy and like that cw even less.

If you like it,  they will be available for around £2k used,  maybe less,  worlds would be my guess.

The cw is cheap by comparison....but tbf the wireless quality in the zenith would be several levels above even though cw are very very good these days.

So I spent the change from a recent bathroom renovation on the appropriate CW bracelet for the C65.  Thoughts?   I like it, but thing the mix of radial brushing on the watch and linear on the bracelet can look at odds in the wrong light:

I redid the lume on the black G-Shock, with some white, and instead of using the little applicator spatula thing, I very carefully painted the indices with a very fine brush. Much better results, it’s smoother, and being white matches the hands better. Still glows green, but it’s brighter and more even glow.

Happy NWD to me. As I said somewhere up there ^, I was on the lookout for a watch for my 50th, ideally from 1974. Well, a bit of eBay patience found this NOS beauty, which has the kind of unusualness and retro vibe that I love.

Seiko have been making concerted efforts to move their prices up so the listing at £510 is very optimistic IMO. It's not really my cup of tea but it looks like reasonable value at the reduced price so if you like it crack on!

I had a sudden inspiration. Falling out of love for the Citizen, I thought I’d try a leather strap.  So, I’ve only got a 20mm so it was for looks only, so this pic is representative with a Barton silicone strap:

IMG_5511

I’ve realised the OEM Ti bracelet dullness detracted massively from the watch itself.  black leather turned it into a really nice and better GADA “smart casual” look.

I’ve order a 22mm QR strap (will work on other watches too) for day wear and can put this Barton QR in a bag for holiday pool time.

The watch is a touch big for my taste but it looks good on the Barton, I'm not sure I'd bother with the leather unless for comfort reasons. Though if you've not got a 22mm black leather it'd be handy to have I suppose.

It must be nice and light off the bracelet, even if it was Ti.

Its a fair point, but the leather is a better look for my line of work 😉

I weighed it at 64g on the kitchen scales.   I was kind of inspired by Jody's review of the Tuyosa Small Seconds this morning, I desperately wanted to buy one, knew I couldn't/shouldnt and picked up this in empathy and 20 mins later voila, I have a new look.

What’s peoples view on taking expensive watches on Hols?   About to go on a 5 day lads trip to a Southern Spain beach holiday (I say “lads “ but I’m the youngest at 52 so it won’t exactly be raucous), I’ve kinda settled on wearing the Arnie, but really wanted to take the SMP.

Im going through a “why buy nice watches if you can’t wear them” thought process.   🤷‍♂️

It’s entirely up to you, if you’re not comfortable taking your good watch then leave it at home.

I don’t worry about it personally. No concerns about them getting scratched etc. I tend to take at least two watches on holiday. Dressy watch for dinner (Rolex / Panerai) and my everyday watch for the daytime (Tudor bb or Sinn).

What are you actually worried about @Kryton57 - Getting it stolen? damaged? lost?

From my personal opinion (and youve kinda said yourself) - the watch is for wearing - and ive worn my nice watches while working/living/holidaying in other countries before (some good, some not so good) and never experienced any issues with damage or theft.

I wear mine on Nato straps, and maybe takes attention away from them.
However the key is to be sensible out and about. You'll be in a group, and unlikely to be raucous too with the self professed group age.

Only drugs youll be looking for is Voltarol by the sounds of it.....

I’d wear my good watch in Southern Spain much as I would in London - so if I was going to end up completely smashed on a nightbus I wouldn’t but for sensible drinking I would.

Generally if I’m going to be ok wearing it once or twice on a trip and have somewhere to store it I take a good watch. I think the last time I didn’t was biking in Canada when there was a lot of leaving kit in cars.

I usually take a beater as well as per above.

I'm wearing my BB58 on holiday in the Canaries right now. Leaving it on my wrist whilst out on the bike and biggest worry is scratching it if I fall off. It's a summertime watch so it'd be daft not to wear it.

I don't have any expensive watches but if I did I'd wear them, otherwise what's the point?

I happily wear any of mine no matter where I am.  I bought them to be worn and they’re insured so don’t see any reason not to.

What are you actually worried about @Kryton57 – Getting it stolen? damaged? lost?

After some thought yes, constantly throughout the trip therefore putting a dampener on it. Hence, the Arnie on a stealth NATO is what I shall take.

This has rekindled bad memories!

In August 1992 I bought an Omega Constellation from WoS in Manchester. I was soooooo chuffed with it. Two weeks later I went to Provence with a mate for a road trip.

And I wore the new watch. And I scuffed the case on a waterslide...take the Arnie!
