So

The weather looks utterly heinous this weekend so climbing, biking and skiing are all out. Since my toe is borked, climbing wall is also out.

Vaguely thinking about digging my old H3 out of the garage and heading up to the Keswick Greta.

Anyway, are there any other kayakers around Manchester/North Wales/ lakes that would be up for a trip somewhere/ anywhere?

Obviously if you do kayak then you'll be asking a few questions first, which is fine by me.

Or any club recommendations in the area.

Try West Cumbria canoe club on Facebook.

I'd love to get back into it, but I'm Warwickshire and my dry cag has rotted now 😂

Not an active Kayaker, but live in Keswick. Pissing down with already high water, Greta will be ‘sporty’ depending on your experience. Nice paddling at lower grade on the upper Derwent from Borrowdale youth hostel to Derwent water, and the middle Derwent from Derwent water to Bassenthwaite. Watch out for strainers at current levels. Pretty much all the Greta can be inspected from the railway line first if unsure. Is there a kayaktrackworld or equivalent?

Or for a higher level of excitement, langstrath beck was absolutely honking yesterday and will be higher now, probably grade 5+ though.

A bit of idle googling brings the level gauge page from the EA: https://check-for-flooding.service.gov.uk/river-and-sea-levels/river/river-greta-cumbria

and that forum suggests 1.6m at Greta Bridge to be a good ‘medium’ level, so maybe not quite as exciting as I thought it might be. I last paddles it 20 years ago in an inflatable white water canoe, was great!

Mm yes. Got a similar problem with my kit. My Kogg drysuit is beautifully folded on the shelf, but I reckon it'll crumble into parts if I put it on.

God only knows how much a decent drysuit costs these days 🙂

How much have you got?

anything from £500 to £1500+ will be dusting mine off tomorrow local lake  and next weekend @ llangollen Dee levels permitting

I never knew how much paddling kit shrinks over time watch out for that ! (oldest kit is at least 30 yrs)
