If you want to re-kindle your interest and possibly do better, download a copy of VRTool.
It's free and allows you to see exact wind angles, wind cell bounaries, measure distances/angles and lots of other stuff.
I've used it on this leg and am currently 556th! The ability to see wind angles in each cell is brilliant.
It's not cheating, it's the only way to really see what's going on.
