I'm off down to Bristol in a few weeks and fancy getting out and about a bit... Not taking a bike, so I reckon a bit of walking. Anywhere good (ie mountains) within an hour or so drive? Was having a look at the Black Mountains but I don't really know the area...
yeah black mountains is good for walking. west of there (Pen Y Fan etc) is superb but slightly further - proper craggy steep stuff
quantocks is also really nice but you might wish you had a bike with you...
You can do all that navigation and self-reliance stuff can't you?
There's not a lot of wild stuff nearby but quite a few nice walks. My faves includes: The mendips; Brean Down; Cheddar Gorge; Priddy. Walking round the city is actually quite nice too. I can happily do and all day walk, look at a few buildings, pop in a few pubs. For more adventurous stuff you need to cross the Severn bridge. Around Tintern is nice and Sirhowy. For proper getting away from it then Brecon or Black Mountains but I'd say that's over an hour away.
Er, I can do navigation and self reliance yes, I was just asking for some pointers as to what might be good. Cheers for the advice guys - Pen-Y-Fan at an hour and a half looks pretty good, we're planning on having a day round Bristol as well.
I've heard some very good things about the Quantocks for riding... Maybe I should squeeze a bike in!
Yep, there's also Leigh & 50-acre woods + Ashton Court for biking, although they suffer when the weather's pants.
for god sake.....bring your bike dude 😆
