So office attire .....

Smart trousers, shirt, tie, waistcoat but no jacket ....... odd or not?

No. Waistcoat no. Absolutely not, ever, under any circumstances.

I used to wear one at work in my 20s. I thought it was cool. In hindsight I probably looked like a nobber, though.

I often wear a waistcoat, because I like it. I have several. Couldn;t give a **** what other people think

edit - even if they think I look like a nobber. I quite probably do, but that doesn't stop me liking wearing wasitcoats 😉

edit 2 - no tie though. Don't need a tie.

Depends on which office. Solicitors yes, call centre maybe not so much (I work for a firm of Solicitors and it's not uncommon)

in my 20s.

Surely the last time it was acceptable was in [s]my[/s] the 20s.

Standard STW wear is brown cords, Merrel trainers, check shirt and Rab puffer jacket so sartorial advice is a little biased.

keep your jacket on if you must

It depends on the weather and the shirt. If double cuff then really should be with a jacket unless it's hot, then you can get away with it as long as you are not at a smart place. Also no silly patterns like comedy ties which are just tragic.

Are you Han Solo?

If not, I'd give it a miss.

don't wear them myself, but i don't see why anyone else shouldn't if they want. same goes for any clothes, really. wear what you want, and don't give a shit what anyone else thinks about it.

+1 although that was mainly to dramatically reduce the area of my shirts that had to be ironed.

Only wear at weddings, but I do find the waistcoat very practical for keeping a gentle control upon a rapidly expanding waistline.

My Mum got me quite a fancy shiny paisley one 20 odd years ago, I'm waiting for the right moment to wear it.

Bringing some class to the unwashed masses of STW.

Comes with a free servant whip and a sense of entitlement over everyone......even the French.

You may wear a waistcoat by all mean, but the ladies in the office will secretly think you look like a dick. Or they may even tell you outright.

Which coincidentally explains why I only wore a waistcoat to work on one single occasion.

you know, if you want to wear a waistcoat, you go right on and wear it. We are not your mum.

Assuming by "office" you mean casino, and you job is that of croupier, then go ahead. 🙂

Incidentally, I saw the above Mr B last week, most entertaining.

I had a waistcoat specially made in Saville Row or somesuch for my wedding in St Lucia - too 'ot for a jacket see..
Blue n gold it was - last seen adorning my son for a school play with a skull & crossbones stuck on the back.

Wearing one again is about as likely as getting married again.

Do you combine your waist coat with sun glasses and a guitar?

I agree with Nick 🙂

It is fashionable (shudders) but can look pretty good solo - all depends on the rest of yours look and general ensemble.

This lot in their 5:10s and g shock watches couldn't dress their way out of a charity bag.

Exactly. As a 62 yo currently wearing an Elbow tour tee shirt with a pair of tiger-stripe camo shorts, STW is precisely the very last place I'd be coming to for sartorial advice!
I also, clearly, couldn't give a flying **** what anybody else thinks about what I wear, when it's appropriate I can dress fairly smartly, I even, God help me, wear a tie to work for the first time in my bloody life!
