We have been taking fibre broadband and basic TV + phone from virgin for six or seven years.

Current bill is around £58/month (inc. £10 add-on for unlimited landline-to-landline calls).

We also take Sky for TV, as it was cheaper than getting an enhanced package from Virgin.

Now looking at dropping Sky, don't even know where our cruddy old Virgin box is but it must be really outdated anyway.

So...
Do they update the boxes for existing subscribers?
Do they offer a recorder box like Sky plus? Is it any good?
Do they carry Eurosport on the basic package?

Cheers.

Thanks, I know how to contact them - but forewarned is forearmed.

To be frank be careful what you wish for - we moved from Sky to Virgin a few months ago.

We've got the latest virgin TiVo box, it's utter crap, much worse than the 10 year old Sky Box we left behind. It takes an age to do anything, and it fails in even the most basic things - for example 'series link' on sky that means it will record the episode you're watching and all subsequent episodes of that series and every future one. Simple, easy, what you want. With virgin what it means is "I'll record every single episode of that series broadcast on any channel at any time, oh and heaven forbid it's on Netflix or we'll add all of those to the list too". Added The Big Bang Theory recently - it's on 5 times a day at least on E4, so it records all of them.

Oh and it's HD offering is poor, some, not all, if you want more in HD you need to buy the full package for a million quid - and their SD picture is terrible compared to sky.

At least the fibre is very good, even if the MASSIVE wi-fi router has a poor wifi signal compared to the tiny sky one. I'm going to get a Draytek router with a co/ax input and a Unifi WAP.

P-jay - as a default it will record everything, simple changes in the menu will stop it recording everything.

Pretty sure you can set up a series link to only record new episodes, and not the repeats of old ones.

P-Jay.

By latest, do you mean the V6 box? As I have a V6, and it's fast as SkyQ and great to use. The old Cisco/Samsung TiVo boxes are shit, tho.

Also, if you set up a series link from the guide, web or app it gives you all the options to set how you want.

If setting up on the fly, then just go:

Home > My shoes and recordings > manages series links and modify there.

I.e. [img] [/img]

I think it's a better system, as can fine tune recordings.

Anyway, OP. Existing Virgin customer for ages. Currently paying £61 a month for weekend phone, 100mb internet and max tv (so everything other than Sky movies/films).

We got our V6 box for free as beta tested it. I think it's £50 for existing customers.

Paying £30 a month for basic TV, phone and 100 mb broad band. Phoned up for a discount though. Why are you paying 10 a month for landline to landline? Do you not have good mobile signal? Most mobile packages calls to landline cost nothing. Our tivo box is a bit slow and clunky but records fine and yes a simple setting change will record new only episodes. Think I might try and talk them into sending out a new box soon but certainly won't pay for it.

And actually reading this question:

Do they update the boxes for existing subscribers? Yes. Will/may cost. Also I think you have to have minimum of 100mb broadband to be eligible.

Do they offer a recorder box like Sky plus? Is it any good? The V6 box is the newest version. I like it.

Do they carry Eurosport on the basic package? Not sure. Poster above me would know. They don;t

'landline'? Don't think we made £10 of landline calls in the whole of 2016.

I have the lowest Virgin TV package - now the children have stopped watching Disney and Cartoon Network about the only broadcast TV that gets watched is BBC HD & C4 & they're on the basic package. Otherwise it's Netflix or Amazon. We have a 1 1TB TiVo and a 500GB TiVo. They're fine, if a bit sluggish. I tend to use iPlayer on the Apple TV but others prefer to get a series link and catch up with the TiVo.

I have the telephone line because you just have to.

And I have the 200mbps down, 20mbps up Vivid Gamer broadband. That is good.

£57/month if I remember correctly.

And I ring up when the contract is about to expire to discuss the upcoming year's deal. They'll update boxes when you renew or renegotiate your contract. Same for broadband.
