I thought there were some v. odd ones on STW from time to time but I've just been on another OT forum where somebody posted this question "What is your favourite Cold War missile?"

Crikey that is a strange one to ask. But then, come to think of it, I was rather smitten with the Pershing II. 😆

The tomahawk cruise missile came into service in the early eighties I think, still cold war just. So that's got to be mine. Who can forget Brian Hanrahan showing us video of cruise missiles going past his hotel window and turning right at the lights...

Might have been John Simpson actually, I just remember the image of this cruise missile flying down the street.

What's wrong with making your missus a Boba Fett inspired costume, making her stand in a snow drift with a toy gun and taking pictures of her for a niche Star Wars website?

I know I would if I could.

In a tingly-in-the-pants sort of way?

What is your favourite missile?

Worked with these for a while, v. impressive when they work, and pretty impressive when they don't!

I also notice that in the Boba Fett-ish photo that the snow in the foreground has been "soiled". Is that all part of the experience?

It's not a sexual thing! The costume is really well done and I like Star Wars stuff [40yo with a mental age of a 10yo].

The reason why I highlight the minute man is because it could be launched in a minute. Previous missiles had slow-loading liquid fuels and the Sovs could detect when they were fuelling (I think they had to lift the caps of the silos which could be seem by spy-sat). With the minute man, the missile were in the air within a minute of possible detection. That really worried the Sovs because it mean that their silos could be destroyed before they counter-launched, a possibly winnable nuclear war.
