My wife is likely to be doing a series of meetings online and so we're on the hunt for a good quality webcam. We already have a cheap and nasty one, along with an uncomfortable headset...

Are the webcams with built in mics any good? Any and all recommendations / warnings much appreciated.

I would offer to post some pics, but our cheap webcam makes her look all blurry....

Hehe I've got a basic Microsoft lifecam vx1000 thing with built in sound. It's a bit rubbish for the weekly Skype with the kids grandparents but would be fine for a business telecon in good light.

Don't do it...the extra money is great at first, then a neighbour will find out and the funny looks will start. It'll get to the point where your wife will be too embarrassed to go to the corner shop/pick the kids up from school!!!

Cheers for the jokes chaps - after a good look around, I'm wondering if they're all much of a muchness?

Its hard to get excited about such mundane things but I use one of these: around £30 (is that too cheap?): http://peripherals.about.com/od/webcamerasvideoinputs/fr/Microsoft-Lifecam-Hd-3000-Review.htm

Does the job well and reliably, microphone is ok. I can only compare it to the built in laptop stuff and this is a lot better - but no comparison to other usb cams sorry.
