Can a vertebra in your neck be out of alignment by half an inch to one side without causing any symptoms?

Depends what you mean by symptoms. I managed to mis-align quite a few of the vertebra in my back and neck when I was younger without really noticing.

Basically the pain from various injuries that misaligned the vertebra hid the pain of the mis-alignement and by the time the traumatic pain had gone I kind of assumed what was left was normal.

After a hew years I went to the Dr about bad knees and he sent me to a knee specialist. The knee specialist said it was my hips at the wrong angle and sent me to a hip specialist. He said it was my back and neck and sent me to a spine specialist.

He unclicked and re-aligned my spine and after a month or so my knees and hips stopped hurting.

Weirdest bit was after he freed up my neck it felt like my head wasn't fixed on properly. My neck muscles had been so used to holding my head in the wrong place that they struggled to hold it when it was put back correctly.

Did it actually feel out of whack before you got it fixed?

I've never really had neck pain apart from once or twice when I was younger.. as a kid of about 10 one afternoon it felt like someone'd inserted a steel spike in one side of my neck. That came back a couple of times but I knew how to rest it before it got bad then. Not had any other issues - today and yesterday though my neck's been stiff along with other parts of my body, which is why I noticed it.

Could be a tumor of some kind I suppose...

mol - I felt fine apart from sore knees. Never suspected any issue with my neck.

I remember trying to look in the rear view mirror when driving back after the neck freeing session and I turned my head over 90 degrees because of the new found freedom of movement. Took about 3-6 months to work out how much to turn, bend, stretch etc but I was never aware of the restriction previously
