anyone know the best source for vehicle specific colour matching paint - only a smallish can for touching up a tiny ding?

popped into halfords yesterday expecting just the usual cans of approximatly the right colour, but was told they now mix the exact colours in store if required. any good? don't really want to launch into spraying it on only to find its nowhere near!

Some places now use some sort of fancy laser pen to get the specific mix right.

Have you got a colour code for the vehicle?
If not, let me know the make and I can tell you where to find it.

Colour matching to the exact shade would probably be better than using a colour code, especially if the car is old and there is any fading.

Halfords or local motor factor will match up to the existing body work and should be just about pefect.

Second the paints4u link.

I ordered some for the missus 206 the other week and it was spot on based on the car colour code. However, it's a brand new car so the paint hasn't faded yet.

I've watched them mix paint in-store in Halfords to match a particular colour code. The guy behind the counter had a cupboard full of liquids and a recipe book. He weighed out different liquids in a paper cup on a set of digital scales, then mixed them (by hand, with a little wooden stirrer), stuck them in a can and pressurised it.

It didn't look like the most accurate process; I imagine the margins of error were quite high considering the small volumes of some of the liquids involved. Probably not a great way to get a good match on an existing panel.

You can find your VW colour code under the steering column, possibly on the fuse box cover on a small white sticker. The code will be 4 digits, for example LA7W (reflex silver) or R902 (Grauweiss). If you can't find the sticker, look in your service schedule if you have it. The sticker is sometimes in there too.

On the Kia, it will be on a plate somewhere under the bonnet I think. They normally have 2 digit codes like AW. If its not under the bonnet, it may be in a door shut.
