***king VB! What f*cking century is this? I have never come across such a CRAPPILY thought out piece of absolute unpresentable ***king SH*T! Type the word FOR into the helpfile and it can't find any records. WHAT??? FOR IS PART OF THE FRIGGING LANGUAGE WHY CAN'T THE SEARCH ENGINE FIND IT??!?!?! AAARGH!!!!! And do't get me f*cking well started on the error emsssages! I mean of all the cryptic totally bloody useless scraps of text to present to the user with absoluytely no thought at all as to wether or not it'll be of the tiniest bit of use!

You can't even dock the windows properly! AND You can write programs that get stuck in infinite loops and YOU CAN'T STOP THEM! HAVE THEY NOT LEARNED HOW TO WRITE FRIGGING SOFWTWARE?! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!!!!

And rest. Just had even more of a rant in real life in the office, now I've calmed down.

Still - utter utter utter crap tho. Infuriatingly bad! And the way that it tries to syntax check a line as soon as you move away from it, regardless of whether or not you've finished typing it. YES I KNOW that's not correct, i'M IN THE MIDDLE OF A F*CKING LINE STOP F*CKING BUGGING ME ABOUT IT AND LET ME TYPE!!! DIE VB DIE!!!Q

VB sucks the big one. Even VB.Net is pretty useless.

So why not use something else? C#?

One of the finest in recent days. Spelling all over the place, random capitals, swearing and, the piece de resistance for me, I have no idea what it was about.

Chapeau, sir, a 10/10 rant!

Could be worse... you could be writing VBA for Access. Or maybe LISP*

That's why I teach now. What coding I do is in my time, for my desired projects and in my language of choice 🙂

*I could only write in LISP after a stupendous amount of caffeine, and if I stopped for a break it would take me about 30 minutes just to work out what I had last been implementing....

I am trying to write a simple macro for Excel. It's taken me two days so far, and I'm a programmer of 15 years experience. The only reason I am persisting is sheer bloody minded determination and the fact I've got absolutely nothing else to do.

CFH, you should've heard me in real life. I am genuinely very upset about the shitness of it all.

Cracking rant. Lots of expletives and gratuitous capitalisation.

My thoughts exactly!

Would like to have seen some random bunches of letters, indicating the ranter was headbutting their keyboard; gmnsgfgkcfgjkxcxcffmv ,fgfgm,f,mn,fgjklff9irtu989, like that. And perhaps a few more spelling errors. And some random capitals in the middle of words.

In all, very good, but loses points for this, and is just a little too well composed. But a fine effort!

8/10. Quality.

I think you lose half a point for having some formatting in the rant. However best one for a while.

VB - it's not too bad, but many oz bars lack a variety of beers, imo. I found that I missed good old British pubs.

Why not use C++ and COM, then embed it as a DLL?

not realised what aload of boring shite computer programming is!

Not half as boring as programmers and their jokes....

As in "There are 10 types of people, those who understand binary and those who don't"

But for sheer programming obstinacy try this:

You are not the first to hate Visual Basic: Verity Stob.

@mogrim

If you want terse try Python:

import re, urllib
print re.sub('</p>', '', re.sub('
|<p>|
|
','\n', re.sub('No', '\nNo',
urllib.URLopener().open('http://www.99-bottles-of-beer.net/lyrics.html').read()[3516:16297])))

Yeah VB (6/VBA) is pretty poor if compared to other modern programming languages, but as a quick & dirty way to slap together a simple access/excel application it's OK.

VB.NET is much better though. It's (almost) the equal in terms of functionality of C#. It's a bit verbose for my taste (I prefer C#) but all the language features you need to write elegant code are there.

jesus, I'm a proper geek but talking to each other in binary....? Although coolhandluke has a fair point.

Have you tried klingon? 😉

does not in any way matter who started it, you're all being very silly.

And I hope you have a good, long, hard think about what you've done.

It's not funny, you know.

God help us all if they discover there are numbers after 0 and 1.

Dear god. Back in your boxes geeks!

I kind of agree with El Boufador. VB and Excel etc is a great way of making small neat utilities to help manage your work BUT the programming experience is so badly designed! That's why I was angry - not because I couldn't do something but because I should be able to open the thing, read the documents and write the code - but I couldn't. Stupid pathetic piss poor application design was just needlessly obstructing me oh god it's happening again.. argh!

I think Tools>Options and unticking Auto Symtax Check might be the prescription for this case
