i need to get the code from my radio which is engraved on the side of the unit - so i need to remove it from the dash. how do i do it? is there a special tool or something? there seems to be 4 pins on the head unit.

its standard vx by the way.

there is a tool , the dealer getting the code for you should be able to remove it. If your near Taunton Im at work and can do it for you.

cheers knottie, but im up in sheffield!

ive just been looking online and the tool looks like a U shaped bit of wire. so im thinking of giving it a go with a wire coat hanger, i can get the code online for £3.50 so im gonna try and DIY it first

good suggestion - i'll give that a go too if the wire doesnt work.

can you do one side at a time, or do you hve to press all 4 at once?

Why not remove the car instead and save yourself the trouble?

You can get the pins to remove it from halfords for a few quid.

I have a 02 astra and need to get the code myself , do you know if it is engraved on the side as well its a VDO CDR 500.

thanks for the offer stonemonkey but ive just got it off with 2 small nails, just press them in until they click then do the other side and it just pulls out - easy peasy!

you code isnt on the radio . the radio serial number is.

thats what the nails/pins push down to slide the radio unit out.

I have a code on the back of the fascia bit that comes off for security, do i still have to pay for a code then?
