Purcashed some IT hardware from a UK business, quote in sterling + VAT, invoice in sterling + VAT to be paid to a UK account.

So get contacted by customs (fedex) Heathrow saying they want £2k import duty to release the hardware? Spoke to the UK importer and they tell me it's our responsibility to pay the import duty?

Nothing on quote or invoice mentions this?

We have not ordered it from the USA or sent any monies to the USA?

Views please

Yeah sounds like nonsense. If they didn't make clear it was coming from the US, it's distributor's problem.

That's ridiculous - no, you've got valid grounds for breach of contract and perhaps mis-selling, I'd tell them to sod off. They're the importer, it's their responsibility to clear it through customs, not yours.

My original advice still stands.

(Presuming you can reorder from a competent supplier)
