Had it done a couple of years ao but just wondered what the chances are of it inadvertently re-joining? 😯

Any experience of this or any medical people in the house?

Don't they knot the loose ends just in case? Or is that just an urban myth?

It can rejoin but it's not likely. My friend had it done and he said the surgeon moved the tubes so they were pointing away from each other so there was an even lesser chance if it happening.

yes they can, especially as the ends freely move about (dunno about pointing then away from each other! i think the surgeon had a good laugh about that to his staff after your friend left!) that's why the nhs routinely test the sections of tube after removal to make sure thay are vas, not for medical reasons, more for future-proofing for litigation purposes

it's a lot more likely for someone to get pregnant from someone with an intact vas deferens that it is for a rejoin though, one to ponder

They don't just cut it, they shorten the tube and either crimp it of tie it. The chances of them rejoining are very small indeed, especially compared to other forms of birth control.

As above - they can rejoin but its rare - very rare. The snip can be done in different ways and these give different failure rates

if they rejoin they will most likely rejoin fairly quickly after the event.

They can apparently rejoin long after the event but that is very very very rare, at least according to the literature I was given.

They can rejoin, in exceptional circumstances. However, it is more than likely than an unexpected pregnancy comes from a male with intact tubes, not neccesarily the husband/partner of the pregnant one. Might not be a pleasant discussion with the mother to be.

Yes it can be done and successfully, I know 😉 Of course that does not mean all can be done, I expect it depends on the way the snip was done! They dont usually like doing it though.

So why are you worried?

I remember when I was working on a farm the vet turned up to crimp some bullocks. Everyone crowded round and then the vet opened his car boot and got out a huge pair of bolt cutters (that's what they looked like). He gave the bullocks a quick injection and then spread his arms as wide as he could, manouvered the crimp at the top of the poor animal's bollocks and sweated and strained to close the arms again. He did this twice for each tube so four times for each calf. He was soaked in sweat after he'd finished.

I couldn't help thinking that the size of the things was a bit over the top and they probably just that big to make the bullocks feel good about a bad experience.

I remember a farmer friend telling me the vet always sent a female partner to do the pigs as none of the blokes would do it!

Back to the OP - I was warned that there was a very small risk of it rejoining, but given the amount of time he was cauterising away in there with his fancy soldering iron, there can't be much left to rejoin!
