Anyone know of a company that hires vans like a Ducato or Transit size van at the airport. Lots of sites advertising but just comes up with cars or minibus types.
Nope - tried loads of times over there.
Really difficult to get a commercial vehicle without residency.
Best you'll probably end up with is a Merc Citano or similar.
Daft cheap though from Autoclick through Vehicle Rent online.

Which airport - Linate or Malpensa? I have some friends in Milan I could ask.
Malpensa please orange. Happy to taxi to pick up van. Well have three of us and downhill bikes dont want to have to take them apart every day. We drove over past couple of years so never had to hire before.
I have asked them. The initial reaction was one of a bit of surprise saying they expected it to be straightforward. They have since checked and clearly, it isn't. I'll let you know if they come up with any ideas.

just get a 7 seater car? a galaxy/smax/similar thing should get 3 dh bikes in, upright, with very minimal fettling (poss front wheel off, but unlikely). should be loads available with airport pickup

I may actually have to go to Milan next week, and that probably means Malpensa from here (EasyJet, you see... 😕 ). If there's anything I can check out in person (reasonably quickly - it'll be a two day trip so can't spend 2 hours in the airport 🙂 ) or enquire at a desk, then let me know.
Hire a self drive splitter van? Usually intended for music tours/golf. Some come with with drivers too and they collect and drop at airports
Well - just FYI - I was in Milan this week but got (for the first time ever) an easyjet to Linate and not Malpensa. I've flown there before but not for some time and clearly if you have to taxi into Milan to pick up a vehicle it's shorter (around 20 or 25€ taxi).
