I need suggestions for songs/ tracks from Scottish artisits suitable for a DH MTB film. I've pretty much got the indie/ rock side of things covered, just needing suggestions from other genres, so that there is a bit of diversity in the music. Any serious suggestions greatly appreciated. It has to be from Scottish artists.

Cheers!

Real Gone Kid gets my vote - still makes me smile when I hear it 🙂

EDIT - sorry, just read it's for a DH film so that'd have to be crap thrash metal then 😉

Talking of what was acceptable in the 80s...If you want some electronic/dance music, Calvin Harris is from Dumfries, The Shamen were from Aberdeen and Boards of Canada are from Balerno. BoC even did a track called Happy Cycling, not sure how well it would work with some gnarly downhill action, though!

You could try some of the Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham stuff. Traditional Scottish folk but one or two tracks might do the job.

I'll see if Mrs M can pick something out

Organic 355 - Thanks for the wiki link!

Gringo - Biffy are in there already.

Sobriety - thinking about Idlewild, but can't get a track that works with the footage - not exhausted all their songs yet.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Keep them coming.

Yeah Mylo - Destroy Rock and Roll album - don't know why I didn't think of that, having been to see him several times! Paris 400 would be spot on I reckon.

Or Sunworshipper for any chilled out stuff.

Ooops by Hudson Mohawke? or something from the Butter album.

Alex Smoke is my favouritest Scottish musician - very electro. Big back catalogue to find something suitable.

Then there's Rustie and Mike Slott - look here http://www.thisisluckyme.com

We were promised jetpacks are in there. I've used Twin Atlantic before. Sons and Daughters might sneak in there.

Going to have an enjoyable night of exploring new music!

There'll be some Xcerts that'll do the job but I don't know the name of any of the songs 😳 Presumably you've already got some Fannies in there? You could probably get away with using 2 Biffy songs, 27 maybe and something off a new album since they're basically a different band.

Or... How about Marmaduke Duke, Single Ladies? I'd try and recommend some other Marmaduke Duke as I'm a big Biffy fanboy and Sucioperro are OK but sadly MD are s**t

Good shout on Twin Atlantic btw, Lightspeed's just waiting to be used for a really nice mtb vid, it's almost too perfect.

I always want to use some Mull Historical Society but I've never made it work yet. Had a crack with This Is Not Who We Were once but it didn't hang together well.

How about a spot of the dreaded Runrig? They're pretty rotten but Siol Ghoraidh has a nice pedally rhythm to it... An Ubhal As Airde (the one from the Carlsberg ad) makes for a lovely quiet bit, I used it in a motorbike vid once and it was a total joy to work round. Hearts of Olden Glory or Hearthammer would be usable I guess, again Hearts for a seriously laidback bit. Disclaimer: It's my brother that's the Runrig fan, I'm just a passive Runrigger.

Were Big Country Scottish then, thought most of the band were English born and a Canadian

More Scots in AC/DC I reckon, well the Young brothers were born there and pretty sure Bon was too

Need high tempo beats and contemporary style. If you also want it to sound very Scottish in character: shooglenifty or peatbog faeries.

i can't youtube at work, but try looking for the shape of things to come by the headboys.

if needs to sound very scottish, have a look for runrig, banks of loch lomond has pipes and stuff so scottish, a dance called america is upbeat musically but is about the clearances so the words aren't very upbeat. some of their gaelic stuff is pretty good - O Cho Meallt from Heartland might be worth a listen

"Folk Song Oblivion" by the Phantom Band would work really well in an MTB film, and I wouldn't consider it as either indie or rock.

Very Scottish. Upbeat. Riff would be good around some jump edits, middle eight would work well around a more flowy section.

Lyrics also apt. That line about "I can't see for the Mountain's Silhouette"...
