i am trying to unlock an old iPhone. It's old, has no sim and I can't remember what network it was on (was my sons phone and I have no imformation on it at all, even the old sim is missing ) anyone used doctorsim or any other service.?It all seems a bit dodgy

Did you find doctorsim on a google search? They are named-checked in a recent-ish MacWorld article, which gives them some credibility -

Do you need a sim to unlock it? Just get a free or 99p one from Tesco mobile that will work on 02 phones as well.  You don’t need credit on it for it to be recognised. That might not be your carrier but worth a try first?
