Weird and pretty pointless list.
John Peel? Hero? Yes. Unsung? by who? Those who aren't interested in hearing new music? To everyone else he was pretty much "sung"!

Baldrick? What are you on about?

etc!

indeed. Lots of those people are 'sung'. They're probably unsung heroes for anyone under 20 because they've not been on X factor.

unsung if you've necer heard of science, engineering, politics or welfare! some very famous names on there.

I know of 90% of the list, and the reason why they are on there!

also why thomas spencer but not michael marks, at 50? v. strange.

ah... 'Sky News'. Second only to GMTV in the 'information for people who don't understand multi-syllabic words' stakes.

Heard of most of them, and I'm not even from these islands.

'Hero' is also a pretty powerful word in my books, and I wouldn't use that label for many people on that list.

Tim berners lee must be one of the most unknown but influencial people on the planet, i'd never heard of him till a few years ago myself.

Wasn't Noris McWhirter connected to dodgy right wing groups in the sixties?

Elbry Sandland - he's an unsung hero of the "freeride" movement here in the UK. he hits up all sorts of sick hucks around gnarly exmoor.

SIR Tim Berners Lee

No one with a knighthood can possibly be described as "Unsung"

Lol at Greeble. However I wouldn't say that the "Freeride Dwarf" was unsung. I've always considered him very good at singing his own praises.

Just noticed:
Bernie Taupin - Songwriting partner to Elton John who wrote the lyrics to tunes such as Rocket Man, Tiny Dancer, Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me and Your Song

holy sh1t. The list is even more pointless than I first thought.
