Fun games! Match the heavy to the dictator

Today's top tip for Putin and his entourage. Make sure you beat Kim to the buffet.
It seems the Sevastopol attack may have been conducted at least partly from the air, using Storm Shadow missiles

I’m a little confused at how the Ukrainians can operate in the Black Sea?
They have rivers into the sea.
As blokeuptheroad says, it was from planes last night.
They now have control of the rigs that were observing and firing on their boats since 2014.

Can you imagine being special forces tasked with defending those. 😥 Sitting ducks for whatever ordinance Russia has left.
I just hope China is not stupid enough to ship stuff through north Korea.
Kim would pinch it all I assume.
Kim is loving it, it's all his wet dreams come true he trump then Putin.
looks like the sub was definitely damaged too

also appears that Russia has only 1 other dry dock in black sea and thats in kerch
Well here is hoping that has really reduced russias ability to launch missiles from the black sea, and to repair / refit those ships that are still in the black sea.
The difference in tactics is huge, ukraine is taking out key assets. Russia appears to still be just spanking missles and drones on mostly civilian targets - unless our press arent reporting any of those types of attacks

I wouldnt be surprised that our media tailors our news
but yeah russia have been targeting ukranian ports in the hopes of hitting their economy as well as more residnetial areas
Ukraine seem to have been planning this quite well
taking out russian radar across west cost of Crimea a few weeks ago https://www.kyivpost.com/post/20925
and then more radar stations on rigs in the black sea a few days ago https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/66779639
and then last night presumably making the most of the gap in russian coverage theyve created
I wonder if Russia will be able to move in more radar etc quickly, if not Ukraine may be able to exploit it again & again
Do you really not think the pentagon is not feeding Ukraine with a targeting list?
Having spent billions of dollars on satellite technology to use against Russia, they now get a chance to use that tech against Russia with no comeback.
I bet there's a daily update with satellite images, pros and cons of each target. Suggested munitions to use, weather reports collateral damage assesments etc
Bloke behind Putin: “I tell you what, lads, after this we’ll head in to town for a dominos, eh? Domino-oh-ohs, eh lads? Seen the advert?”

theres a distinct lack of Russian civilians and infrastructure in Ukraine for the Ukrainian military to target. The only targets available are strategic ones.

How do I get off the magic moving stairs?
I think the bloke behind is warning Kim not to trust any aresehole who stands on the left

Oh dear, it seems that some more Russian air defenses have been taken out by Ukrainian drones.
https://twitter.com/MrKovalenko/status/1702159694867947885
The S300 and S400 Air defence systems are also something that even Russia doesnt have that many of and with them being fairly tech-heavy its very very hard for Russia to manufacture replacments.
With Russia now having to also deploy them back home to guard against drone attacks they must be spread pretty thinly.
Bodes well for when the F16's start to arrive next year.
the ruskies will be building acoustic mirrors soon
the Sevastopol attack was at the same time as a failed usv attack on russian arms/ fuel runners

Interesting, and the attacks on these transport ship don't have to be successful to have an impact.
Shipping basically runs on insurance, no ship leaves port without it, by doing this Ukraine increases the cost of Russian and Russia-bound black sea shipping exponentially and that's assuming the ships can even get cover after this latest attempt.
This shipping route is also how Russia supplies it's operations in Syria and Africa and how it exports oil to China.
Peter Zeihan addresses this in a pretty concise manner here from about 4:40 in.
Wouldn't the Russian govt step in to insure shipping in this situation?
Wouldn’t the Russian govt step in to insure shipping in this situation?
Military vessels don't have insurance.
Governments "self insure".

Like any ship owner could trust an 'honest we have you covered' note from Russia.
What's to stop the russians sail without insurance? Sure it must be against some international shipping laws but they and their clients aren't the most law abiding.

The owners of the vessel not wanting to have to buy a replacement from their own pockets. Otherwise they can crack on . . . assuming the crew is happy knowing their families get nothing if they get sunk
russia doesn't comply with norms. I very much doubt shipping insurance is going to stop them from transporting arms and supplies sadly. sinking the ships however....
just been reading about how ukr have developed underwater attack drones. no reports of one being used as of yet. reminds me of the midget submarines from ww2
Seems the ship in dry dock was a very deliberate target, not just the submarine as many thought.

This has re-surfaced as a result of the leaks from Jack Teixera in the US
Either Russian equipment has a massive failure rate or the RC-135 Rivet Joint's EW was practically glowing

Countries won't allow uninsured shipping to dock and/or navigate certain areas, e.g. the Bosphorus, simply because they don't want to take on salvage and clean-up costs to preserve their waters
Russia will just say they are self-insured, or use a gov back russian insurance firm

We all know the answer to this.
But no one who really knows about it will speak about that publicly, particularly online.
Rivet Joint *must* have some pretty spectacular kit on board.
I also read that to avoid this in future other 'assets' are flying nearby to Rivet Joint (and other observation/EW planes) to ensure there is a deterrent.
I think there is a massive and ongoing background 'lean' on Russia to not use nuclear, biological or chemical and not to transgress international borders. I would be fascinated in a few years to know how/what is being said and what leverage is being brought to bear.
and not to transgress international borders
Well, apart from one!
Those ships are owned and operated by the Russian Navy.
They will not have regular insurance. They will be self insured.
The same as UK RN and RFA vessels.
Escalating badly?
brilliant
why is it those two remind me of Oddjob and Blofeld?
The culprit is known to me. I have decided on the appropriate action.
Keva the purile child in me read that completely wrong .
Oh dear, pity about that bearing factory.
