My guess if you can’t afford to lose it you won’t deploy it :/
They'll be used more now that HMS PofW is fixed 🙂
the other limitation for cwiz is it's slow reload time as it burns through ammo.
3-4k rpm does that
Often caused more problems than it solved in Iraq.
Also limited effectiveness when there's more than one projectile in the air.
The Iraqis figured this out and went to multiple launch rails when targeting the COB.
A redirected rocket from an engagement killed a RAF bod on the loo. Many others that were intercepted simply rained debris down on the base.
Better than **** all, but still limited.
probably worth noting that russian navy have there own CWIZ systems too. Defending a warship from a small and relatively stealthy surface drone is tricky. Perhaps we'll see the return of torpedo nets :/

after the 500th utube vid of a ukrainian drone dropping a $50 hand grenade into an open turret hatch of a $3million tank the Russians would have learn their lesson by now but no there seems to be no let up in the stupidity/panic :/
obviously propaganda aside there's about 3 vids a day of Russian vehicles being destroyed ..... 21 a week ... 85 a month ... 1000 a year something has to give here !

One thing that stands out from the video of the warship getting hit is that it was sailing with lights on and also there was no blackout on shore, so the ship was silhouetted against the lights on shore. That means that the Russians were just cruising along in peacetime mode despite Ukraine constantly surprising them with long-distance attacks. I suspect that a properly trained crew on full alert would have stood a much better chance of not getting sunk.
Re the royal navy and exposure, it's not as bad as it looks re this sort of thing, because the carriers will always be absolutely escorted to **** if they're within any sort of perceived threat range, and of course they'll also be very careful about letting them be in that situation. But a pretty recurring criticism is that a) lots of decision makers will be risk averse about that to the point it's likely to diminish their actual usefulness and that possibly smaller carriers with less willy waving would have reduced that a bit and b) that's a huge soaking up of capability- the carrier group has typically been 1 carrier, 2 of the 6 T45 destroyers and 2 of the remaining 11 Type 23s plus ally escorts. Plus whatever's required to escort the tankers and stores ships when they're in transit and. In other words if we're doign anything useful with a carrier, a huge proportion of the entire available royal navy is doing nothing but keeping it and its logistics safe instead of doing Generic Navy Stuff.
Oh yeah and C which is that you're not always at that level of protection and not everyone is polite enough to tell you in advance, I know there'll be tons of hidden protection and alarms and surveillance and whatnot but you get a really surprisingly close look when they're alongside at Portsmouth. Even with all the machineries of that in place I doubt you can ever say "that's totally safe". Hell, hijack a st malo ferry and go put a 40000 ton dent in it.
Reports suggest that a Russian tanker was hit near the bridge rather than the bridge itself, but too soon to know for certain.

I'm not an expert, but wouldn't it be harder for Ukraine to hit these ships if the Russians turned off the lights when they were sailing in a war zone?

quite interesting that there was a lot of talk from the MOD about giving up the tank altogether…. then that was pooh-poohed perhaps they garnered something from their own analysis before even this kicked off.
Famously backed by Boris on 17th November 2021, "We have to recognise that the old concepts of fighting big tank battles on European land mass are over and there are other better things we should be investing in."
A week later Russia began to gather tanks on their border with Ukraine...
seems like retaliation for targeting grain ships & ports. those little naval drones seem pretty efficient. wonder how many ukraine are building / how quick they can make them.

No doubt made easier by Russia making the Black Sea a no-go-zone for commercial ships from other nations.
The Russian tanker, Sig, was sanctioned by the US for supplying jet fuel to Syria and as such is considered a vessel of war by Ukraine
It seems that UK engineers have been busy; surplus Supacat Soothsayer EW vehicles (Devon), duct-taped to ASRAAM (Lancs) https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/asraam-air-to-air-missiles-from-uk-being-used-by-ukraine-as-sams
I thought this film on how the Ukrainian tech sector is expanding, adapting and innovating was really interesting. Not just to help the war effort, but also to bolster and grow the economy and set the scene to make them a leading digital economy when the war is over. It really does feel as if for Ukrainians, the whole country is on a war footing, with every business and sector trying to deliver capability to help them win, because of the existential threat. I can't help but admire their spirit.

As ever war is the mother of invention.
I suspect Ukraine might be a big player in the EU over the years to come, another Poland basically.🚵
Tsk tsk -it'll just be careless working having a sneaky fag and vodka during working hours no doubt. Nothing to see here!
I wonder if they'll be an English version of this soon-to-be best seller. Russian School Text Book.
Ha, what a shit show. Lukashenko was so pleased with himself about helping divert the potential coup and getting in Putin's good books. Vlad's going to be less impressed with this!
Reading that thread about Wagner it seems they are off to Africa to plunder some more resources and people...

World Service doc about how it's working out now that Wagner ex-convict recruits who've served their time are going home. Hint: not that well. The only bright side is far fewer of them are making the return journey than had been implied when they signed up.
It's almost like something is discouraging people from buying Russian currency.

Russia has been quite effectively cooking the books on its economy since last year.
The issue being that reality always catches up with you eventually and the longer and harder you cook the books the bigger and more dramatic the correction.
A few analysts I've seen reckoned Russia would be able to stave off this correction until the end of the year but the fact that Russian oil export traffic is being effectively targeted by Ukraine may have accelerated the timetable.
This opinion piece fits with Russia's behaviour and basically leads to the conclusion that Russia is never going to enter into any peace negotiation in good faith.

Crimea Bridge seems to be under attack again.

It's obvious they're going to keep going at the bridge.
I await anothe hospital/school/carehome being hit by Russian missiles overnight.
Apologies for linking to the scum, but this is interesting. The Russian wanted for the poisoning and murder of Alexander Litvienko has cancer possibly caused by exposure to polonium 210. I don't take pleasure at anyone suffering from serious illness, but there is a fair old slice of karma right there.
Ru claims attacks on the bridge were modified s200 Sam missles. odd for ukr to use those on such a high value target when they have storm shadows
odd for ukr to use those on such a high value target when they have storm shadows
Storm Shadow is an expensive and precious resource. They have been burning through their stock rapido. There may well be other priority targets on a list for some Storm Shadow attention, from their finite stocks. I'm sure their resource husbandry is absolutely on point.
Still amazing to see Russian tourists on the beach in Crimea 🤷♂️🤦🏻♂️

Loobing low value missiles at the bridge regularly forces the Russians to keep their air defences on it, and expend them protecting it.

Probably being shipped in for free. Authoritarian regimes like to present an 'all's ok' to the outside world.
Mmm, Russian's learning that they aren't welcome in Ukraine.

As the old joke goes, this plan should boost the IQ of both countries.

I love how he calls Ukrainian people in Ukraine wanting to be Ukrainian and not Russian as 'traitors'
100% consistent with the current internal Russian messaging to their own people.
At the start of the war the Ukrainians were 'brother people' who needed to be rescued from a sinister cabal of Gay Nazis who were all on the payroll of George Soros and Jens Stoltenberg.
As the Russian war aims started to go south the propaganda shifted and now the Ukrainians are 'traitors' to their beloved and benevolent motherland Russia.
Got to justify the war crimes somehow I guess.
crazy Ukrainian tank on a jaunt
probably to lure the russian into revealing their positions for counter battery fire from Himars
There's also a video currently of an attack by some fairly determined Ukrainian's.
Thier tank hits a mine and the Humvee gets a hit from artillery - yet they all rush out and take the Russian position.
I'm not posting as it's a bit graphic/scary in places
