I thought you coloured in a US voting form not put an X beside a candidate? Might be wrong but heard it from a naturalised american on that R4 this week.
I suppose I should retract my 2am prediction of a Trump win. I think I prefer it this way. We get to see him throw his dummy out the pram as it all unravels, and he doesn’t seem to be disappointing us. The other amusing thing is that they did this by design. As if they were just going to stop counting because he said so.

There are 2 less candidates this time, and those two were fringe right candidates iirc. So those voters had to go somewhere. It was never going to Biden.

It's much more complicated than that. In some places you have a machine to operate, with a process and screens to read through. In others it's a cross in a box, but there are always loads of elections going on at the same time so your ballot paper is as long as your arm, there are instructions to read and it's really easy to make a mistake. That's one reason why it takes so long.

Plus in the case of mail-in/absentee ballots, you have to put them in the envelopes correctly, the signature has to match, it has to filled out correctly, scrutineers can challenge a ballot on any number of grounds and the USPS may still be looking through sorting facilities looking for undelivered ballots.
If you were designing a voting system to not deliver the result voters intended you couldn't do much better.
Plus places like Wisconsin don't officially declare until December 1st. So you won't get an official outcome until then.

If you want a short but only mostly accurate answer. An hour ago you might say whoever wins Michigan wins, but that’s based on a lot of assumptions.
It’s unlikely anyone, if Biden wins in Mich we’ll probably have to wait 24 hours for Nevada to count more votes to be sure.
If Trump wins Mich, he’s probably won.
My only real contributions to the thread but bookies now have Biden 1/5 to win.

Obviously, because at the start of the night, there weren't any votes counted/declared, so all there were, was polls forecasts and analysis.
But I guess my point might not have been clear enough, which is that weirdly despite the predictions and polls being off the mark, the situation now is still largely what it was before the first vote was counted- the maths is still on Biden's side, from everything we can see. It's just ironic that this was the case at the start, and while all the working has turned out to be wrong, the actual answer still seems to be right. That was basically what all my maths homework looked like too.
