My parents have bought a JVC smart TV. It Does have good reviews.
Main/only reason is to watch catch up from BBC . Our Sony is fine but not available in spec they wanted and it appears that these things are not the same. It ha a stack of apps installed, none except fb have I even heard of. No main stream UK telly though. That appears to be tucked away in something called Free play. Neat I suppose. Thing is you can't use Frreplay without logging into an aerial.! Which sort of misses the point somewhat as telly through the internet should mean no aerial. It complicated by the fact that they run freeway as there is minimal conventional TV where they lived. Freeplay won't run through a dish.
I think, may be wrong, that its nor returnable as its been opened. You don't know this until you try to set it up. Could I just plus in a Now TV box and treat it like a stupid TV instead or do you think that it will object to the iplayer ? It won't let me watch iPlayer through google for some reason.
The whole point if this was to avoid new wiring and even a small box is regarded as a complication and eye sore. 2 remotes are 2 too many, they dont use the one on the normal telly even

That was a tough read, but if the TV doesn't do what you require, then take it back.

Obviously this would be a lot of easier if bought online, as you have more rights.

If you buy online, you are entitled to inspect goods that you’ve bought to make sure they are what you expected, just as you would if you bought them in a shop. This is stated in the Consumer Contracts Regulations. If you need to take the goods out of the packaging to check them, then you are well within your rights to do so and the trader cannot insist that you return the item in the original packaging. You should, however, keep the items safe until they are returned to the trader and package them well to prevent damage. For items such as jewellery that have an element of hygiene attached, you should take all reasonable care to keep seals or ties in place.

Can't you return online purchases to store at PC World?

Anyway, you sure you're not being a luddite, and just not found the app/option yet, OP?

Online

Consumer Contract Regulations then; 14 days to reject items, you don't need to provide a reason.

Yup. I've had a lot of mileage with "just so we're clear, you're refusing to honour my statutory rights?"

Got to say though, you can fix the problem with a twenty quid box, is it worth the hassle? In-built "smart" functions tend to be crap, an external box is almost always better.

From what I've quickly skimmed on the tinterwebs, JVC use Android OS and Play Store should be built in, from where you can d/l the apps you want

iPlayer is listed but it appears that you go through this Free play which looks as if it needs an aerial! Would rather keep it as nearest store is 30 miles in a place we go once a year, reluctantly. Old people buying online go to places they recognised hence PC world. Can't work out how to download an app but I didn't know that such a thing existed myself.
Just realised that Now TV box seems to need a package to be bought. Is that a subscription? Stuff that.
Perhaps I'll let my old man just loose his rag with PC world for expecting him to know something that isn't printed anywhere.
Says smart on box . JVC 24" for 169 quid.
I think, as I would, that they expected BBC iPlayer to have a big icon like my Sony.
Ta

You mean Google Play? This requires network and a login. Not an aerial, a network link.

Is there a youth available to sort it out for you? Failing that, let us know the model number, and sure it can be sorted.

No, no it doesn't. Only for the Sky/Netflix stuff. I might have a NowTV box knocking about somewhere you can have for price of postage.

JVC 656 159 quid.
Worked out how to get an app! Woohoo,. IPlayer on this tablet now. 😆
I'll give it a go again but the bloody TV handbook doesn't tell me how to download the app. Same as on this thing?
Help is appreciated.
Now, more importantly, Speckled Hen or 6x whilst in the bath and typing this?
