Ok I’m doing my first triathlon in three moths and I’ve been looking at Tri Suits. Now I’m only doing this for fun and to have fitness goal to aim for and even if I enjoy it would be doing no more than three a year. So do I need one? I don’t want to be uncomfortable do this as a say it is for fun so would the suit help? Looking on CRC the 2XU or Skins seem good which would people recommend? And what about sizing I’m 6’4” tall, 36” waist and 90Kg
You may have a better result asking on a tri forum. Most of the local organisations will have one these days.
My guess would be don't get lulled into thinking you need one. If you will be doing an open water swim at this time of year then I would recommend getting one and spending some time training in it and the open water so it's not a shock to the system.
If it's a pool swim then just get some shorts assuming you're not something akin to a wookie.
My advise would be to work on your transition times and fuelling almost as much as you work on your swimming stroke or cycling cadence... Its amazing how your time will suffer when you realise you don't have the right piece of kit in the right place on transition :s
Just get some tri shorts, they have some padding but not too much and they dry pretty quickly once you're on the bike. Just chuck on a running or bike top.
I'd recommend one. I did my first two events this year and was glad I didn't have to faff around too much during transitions. I think Ribble have some deals on Orca suits. I managed to get a good deal on eBay.. found a great wetsuit this way too. Good luck and enjoy (triathlon can become quite addictive!) 😉
Oh, and don't forget to get a tri-belt, too.
go on tritalk for loads of info and try a tri suit before you buy, i found 2xu sizing bizarre
and good luck!
I prefer a Kiwami Twinki short with a Singlet top.
I've also used and liked Dave Scott and Newline. And used and disliked Ironman.

First question is what distance?
second is how bothered are you about being fast?
third question is how happy are you having the bits on display.. they are somewhat revealing.
A decent tri-suit will cost int he region of 80 squid, and they are, a-hem, quite personal items, so you may not opt for SH. many people will pee in the suit too. so if you are considerign thsi activity, avoid a white suit....
the shorter the race the more time you'll save relatively by wearing a tri-suit. having said that I always wear a tri-suit for IM distance, and I'm certainly not racign at a high level..
is the swim open water or pool?
I'd go with the suggestion of gettign tri-shorts for race 1, and see if you liek tri. also you'll learn a bit about what sort of racer you are. though gettign a t-shirt onto a wet chest is a pain in the bum... and yes a number belt (with gel holders) is a really useful thing to have.
As for which one, the big tri names are 2xu, orca, spiuk. I have a spiuk evo 2 and it is really comfortable.
also speedo are now doing really good tri stuff, their wetsuits are ace. fusion suits are really nice but expensive.
Also note some have pockets in the back, fine if it a wesuit swim, but they just act as parachutes in a pool.
Good luck with the race, they are usually really friendly, inclusive, events, so just enjoy it.

So friendly that anything of value left in the bike park might be nicked. I suggest Lidl sunglasses and picking up your stuff pronto post race.
I have done a number of triathlons, did my first in 98. I originally used tri shorts and a t shirt from one of the brands but I never wore the latter under my wet suit. I didn't wear a tri vest because I am more party 7 than six pack. When they wore out I bought a more understated Sugoi tri suit because they had a long inseam to the short element that I prefer and I would recommend these. This went under the wet suit so I was a bit quicker in the first transition. However if you are not sure how many you will do, it is not the first bit of expenditure I would suggest.
At lots of the tri events I've done the organisors have suit manufacturers sponsoring, and hiring suits, I hired a really nice (£200+) suit for a local one I did in the summer. Saves a lot of cash if you're not certain Tri is for you.

Thanks for all the reply’s and info. I’ll make sure I have a good look at Tri Talk as there looks to be loads of info on there.
As for distance I’m doing the “Abu Dhabi Sprint” = 750m Swim, 50km Bike, 5km Run as a test event type thing before a longer event later in the year maybe 1.5km Swim, 100km Bike, 10km.
I’m really not bothered about been fast and not that bothered about having my bits on display I‘ve done Lycra shorts. The swim is open water but it’s Abu Dhabi open water so don’t need a wet suit. I’ll also look out for the pocket thing if I get the full suit but I’m things just shorts reading the replies here.
