Have a chance to buy a connect LWB 75PS (non TDCI)that has been chipped to 105 PS.
Is there any reason why this wouldn't be a good move?
Already have a 90 PS connect but looking for a newer one.
Will a chip really make 25% difference?
Depends on the kit fitted. but sounds optomistic for a 75 to 105....martin at www.vantuner.co.uk would answer any queries. He can also be found here too. www.fordtransit.org You never know he might have done the remap!
Some of the plug in gadgies are very generic and enthusiastic with their figures whereas a proper remap for torque/economy might be better.
Who chipped it? Theres a lot of companies doing this, not all offer a decent warranty and probably a small minority to another owner, is it actually chipped as in they have reprogrammed the ecu or is it a plug in box?
Think it's actually a re-map, will have to find out more info.
re-map can easily give you that kind of power gains. I'd be more wary if it's a chip, unless you can find out if it's from a reputable brand.
Generally problems are more to do with ancillaries than the actual engine - clutch, turbo, intercooler and pipework. Pretty easy though to find out if they are all the same bits as fitted to more powerful models though and if it's the same, then you should be OK.
My Ibiza diesel (130bhp) can be remapped to about 170bhp without too much bother. Main reported issues are clutch slip, depending on age of clutch and driving style.
Getting it insured?
I thought unless they knew when taking it out, they don't want to know when you come to claim? I'm sure I'm mostly wrong
Turn up the boost...
It will wear engine parts faster and kill your turbo.
Chipp does not mean chip mapping as it could be anything.
Just make sure you keep an eye on oil temp.
