Any suggestions please as the iphone 4 doesn't except a conventional sim card only the micro sim so the normal way is not possible, any ideas anyone?

Plug into computer. Fire up iTunes. Do a backup.

Plug in new phone. Activate, restore backup. All your apps, settings, contacts, emails, SMS messages, etc will be on there.

You have contacts on your SIM? Is it 2002 again?

What Simon said.

You can also sync your contacts to somewhere else (e.g. Windows Contacts, an exchange server, Google Contacts, MobileMe etc).

My wife and I both sync ours with the Windows Contacts on the PC, that way both phones and the PC have the same contact lists.

Yeah problem is hadn't realised I'd not ssaved my wifes contacts to her googlemail until now and now they've taken her old Iphone and we're left with just the sim, I guess I could put it in my 3GS and try it that way

Forget about the sim. The contacts are not stored on the sim.

Just stick the new phone into iTunes and Restore it from the last backup of your wife's old iPhone.

Connect the iPhone 3 to a computer with iTunes installed.

Back up the iPhone 3.

Connect the iPhone 4 to the same computer.

Restore the iPhone 3 backup to the iPhone 4.

EVERYTHING that can transfer (probably 99%) will transfer from the old phone to the new automatically.

Don't be snippy t-m. I think it's great that somebody searches the internet for 10 month old problems and then creates a login on a biking website so they can repeat the first reply on the thread.
