Me and my girlfriend are a week away from moving to BC, I am still earning an income here from my UK house being rented, I want to send some of that income to Canada probably every other month.

From my HSBC account I can see I can use worldpay to do this at £9 a time, this is fine and I have done it before but are there better ways with less of a fee or a generally better exchange rate that people here have used?

How about setting up a DD to pay it onto a UK credit card?

From experience £9 is going to be about the best transfer fee you are going to get. Moneycorp who have a great online service charge £15 per transfer, however they tend to give a better rate that the majority of money movers.

With the current diving exchange rate, you are as well to consider the spread / difference that banks are offering you from the actual exchange rate, as low fees can just hide the fact they are raking a bigger margin from your transferred funds. When transferring a monthly salary this will be where the greatest saving can be achieved.

Using a UK credit card is fine short term, however some cards charging an international transaction fee for each use as well as making a margin on the actual exchange rate, so it can be costly but is convenient.

With the current exchange rate, you would maybe be best of leaving as much cash in the UK account and wait for the rate to go back in our favour and then transfer a single lump sum.
