I bought if from Argos only to discover it has no SD card slot. As it only has 1GB of internal memory and I need 1.2GB, can I do anything to expand it? I need to install UK, Rep. of Ire., Western Europe main roads and Poland maps. Any ideas?
BTW I can't return it as it has no 30-day return policy, boooo!

If it has no SD card slot, then I yhink you are stumped.

Do you always need the whole of W Europe on it? My Garmin allows me to add/remove countries as required, so perhaps that is an option.

That's why they sell a European version?

The European version ends on the German border with Poland. AFAIK there are several countries East of there. I go there more often than most.

Because according to TomTom website it takes SD cards and I already have all Europe on such. The problem is I can't return it unless it's not working and Idon't know how to stop it from working and not make it obvious.

Bring a laptop with you? Use it to switch the maps over when you change countries? 🙂

That's what I'm thinking (unless I can find a map of main West Europe roads and then add Eastern Europe).

I've just realised it's a TomTom XL Classic, no slot, no nothing. Only 1GB of memory.

My bro made the same mistake, luckily he got it from John Lewis and they took it back no bother.

Might work if you go back there begging on bent knee and offer to buy a more expensive model..

else get one of these for £50 and install the TomTom software + maps on it- instructions are easy to find...

I did tell you to check it had a SD card 8)

Take it back & ask for a refund - tell them it isn't working
They have no way of checking your claim

If they want to swap it, tell them it's too late to replace it as you had to buy another one elsewhere pronto

Try that. The spotty kids that work there are not going to check it.

How is it excluded from the Argos returns policy? I can understand things like their chav jewellry and stuff you have to order specially, but not a satnav

If you're going to be putting 'acquired' maps on it - don't bother setting up Tomtom home, it only complicates things

which maps do you need?

looking at an old version of E Europe, it's only 100MB or so
there's another one that covers PL,CZ,HU & SK that tips the scales at 144MB

Give me a shout if you need any info

If you want tomtom with maps of poland you need to buy the go740 version, far more expensive! you should,ve gone with the garmin equivalent as it has all the maps (including eastern europe) pre-installed and has an expansion slot........thats what you get for shopping at Argos! 🙁

To protect your personal security, we are also unable to accept returns on some non-faulty imaging and recording products such as MP3 players and digital cameras.

If a product is excluded from our 30-day money-back guarantee, it is clearly marked by a † next to the product name in the catalogue and on this website.

Don't do owt daft like breaking it on purpose. Take it back to Argos and tell em it's not working as it won't work inside a building anyway (mine gives an error message when I mess about with it indoors).

argos wont take anything with memory in it back because it is suprisingly common for people to buy them, load them with rude pictures of themselves, and return them :s

which can cause quite a shock for the person who ends up buying it next!

people who tend to do this are not people you would WANT rude pictures of, under any circumstances.

shudders

quick argos related question since we seem to have a lot of knowledgeable people here... (not trying to threadjack you HC, this might help)

What are the selling regs that apply to Argos? as i see it they are a shop but your not able to look at anything (other than a pic of it) before you pay, then you recieve the item. If you dont want it you than have to go to a returns desk (i think? been a while since ive been in a Argos store).

Now in my view this is more like how you purchase things on-line, and we have distance selling regs for internet purchases or mail order etc. to protect us if the product isnt what we thought it was after weve already paid. Could these regs be applied to purchasing within an Argos store?

Any thoughts?
Rich.

Argos come under the distance selling regs.
they HAVE to take back an item if your returning it purely because you dont like it.
you havent seen the item in the flesh before paying for it.
If your local branch try not to, tell them they are wrong and take it further up.

(i'm an ex stockroom pixie, argos was an ace job 😀 )

[edit] unless it has memory in it, for the above reason (pre 2002 they took them back, but we were getting a few cameras loaded with porn each week!
not all members of staff were tech savvy enough to be confident the cards would be erased properly, and even if they were full formated, the images could still be retrived if you knew what you were doing) or are things like earrings.

Bleeding custards, didn't exchange it. Why don't you buy another one for Eastern Europe, Sir? they said. I'll put Western Europe in, back it up, then clear and put Eastern Europe in. Back it up again, name it nr2, and swap between them as and when required. What do you guys reckon?
Uplink, I'll be emailing you with the details this afternoon, thanks for help.

They, Argos, said if faulty return no problem. Easy solution then - get something working as far as the maps go OR look inside the software of TT and use <delete> function a bit too much.
Uplink, what tomtom has a sd card slot?
