MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
Our two year old has a small pea sized lump on his nose/eye socket that's been there over a week. At first we thought it might just be a bump from something but it's not gone down at all and didn't hurt him when we touch it. It's hard and smooth and seems just under the skin.
My wife's been to the doctor this morning who's referred him to an eye specialist and who has said she didn't think it's anything 'sinister', but of course we're worried sick now.
Anyone had similar?
I had a blocked tube between my eye and nose (no idea what it's called).
Ended up with a bump there that I eventually managed to clear by massaging the lump until it's contents ended up in my nose (don't ask). I'm not suggesting you do the same but I was fine afterwards and it's not come back.
My daughter had a pea-sized lump on her eyelid, when she was about 3 years old, it was only visible when she closed her eye, and it didn't hurt.
It was a cyst - they sometimes drain away and disappear on their own, however this one didn't so she had a little (like 10mins) Op to remove it.
It never came back and she's never had another.
Sounds like yours might be similar..?
Possibly - cysts have been mentioned - this one is up in the eye socket/bridge of nose.
could it be a pea?
Sorry I appreciate this is not use to you at this time, but might help you smile. In my experience, if there is genuninely something to worry about with kids the whole thing is dealt with incredibly quickly. The fact they've sent you home is a real positive.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.
I had a cyst on/behind my eyebrow from being very young (in-a-pram young) until I had it removed while a student (minor surgery). It was about the size of a cannellini bean and never did anything but sit there and invite questions from nosy other kids.
If the GP who has seen your kid doesn't think it's sinister then you should listen to them. I realize that's easier said than done...
My son had this, docs (eye specialist) said it was called some thing called a chalazian, basically just a small lump. We were told to used a hot compress to help it go down, and if it didn't start to go down in a few months they would think about surgery to remove it but they didn't really want to do that and wanted to give it plenty of time to go down by itself. They did say it could take a year or so to fully disappear I think.
It went down after a while and did disappear in the end. It never hurt him or bothered him really and I don't think they are anything sinister. Start the hot compress morning and night now and see if it starts to go.

Hmm that seems to suggest it's an eye lid thing. This is more up where his nose becomes his eye socket, right in the corner.
My son's was on the lower eye lid near the corner, right in the eyelashes.
My lad has had a small cyst on his ear since he was very little. These days, every now and again there is an youtube-worthy extrusion of white pus.
Doesn't bother him all that much.
my youngest has cysts which appear from time to time, caused by blockages in the various tubes and ducts in and around the eyes. We've been told to massage the eyelid preferably with warm water from time to time and they should clear up.
mrsmidlife had one for about a year that lookeda lot like this:

Has the little chap spent a lot of time watching X-factor and drinking white wine recently?
Too late for edit: a minor op at outpatients sorted it in 15 minutes with no reoccurrence.
A GP will know if has the potential to be serious. I think with the Broad bean size lump on my head the gp said don't worry it's not attached i.e. its free to move
On my first trip to the GP I had locum who didn't communicate this so I went back and had it explained. Eventually my GP removed the cycst in his office under local anesthetic
If your wife is worried about to the point she is distressed then tell her to take your son back to the GP and them explain what they think it is or maybe get the GP to phone and explain
So the GP isn't sure what it is and we're having to go to see an eye specialist, then maybe a bone specialist. We're just waiting on the appointment now. A letter has gone marked 'urgent' but with it being the bank holiday is could take ages.
My wife is beside herself and i'm not much better. Is there anything we can do to speed things up? I'm having the doctor ring me at lunch but not sure what that will do. Will going private speed it up?
the doctor calling you may do some good in giving you more information which could help to reassure
is that today the letter went? can they fax/email instead? Appointments can happen quickly when they need to.
Going private could speed things up, though probably not to the extent of getting you an answer today (which is what I'd want in your shoes)
The doctor was good. He thinks it's a bone cyst and will be chasing the hospital for us this afternoon. He's going to call me back.
An update... Seen the consultant today. She isn't 100% so we're on to the next thing: MRI scan under general anaesthetic.
Best of luck mate, sure it'll be something trivial.

Nobeer +1
Hope all goes well.
Sorry yes I agree +1
Definite (probably minor) surgery too. Poor little lad will have a scar
Poor little lad will have a scar
That's ok. Chicks dig scars!!! 😉
Quick update for you all:
In for the op this morning. 50 minutes under GA and he's come out with two black eyes and a few stitches. He was/is a bit groggy and wobbly but otherwise OK. The good news is they got it all out. Pretty certain it's a (marble sized) cyst but it's been sent for tests anyway. An afternoon of Postman Pat and cuddles awaits.
Thanks for your support everyone.
Poor spud, healing vibes.
Poor bugger spoil him rotten.
Ocht poor wee boy, hope he gets over it double time.
Poor little chap! At least kids heal quickly, but make a fuss of him from all of us.
All's well that ends well. 🙂
Tell him it was a horn.
Use bio oil on the scar it will help it to fade.....my daughters scars faded pretty well and the 12" scar across her abdomen now just looks like a body fold crease....
Hope u enjoyed your afternoon of cuddles and postman pat. Wishing your little one a quick recovery
