Does anyone have any experience of using those cheap personal radios when running a conference in a hotel? Are they powerful enough to go between a couple of floors?

Cheers

The coffee shop I frequent uses them to talk to their sandwich shop, which is two doors and a town hall away, so I would hazard a guess and say yes.

Used a £30 pair at a conference a few years back. Seemed pretty good. Of course, you get the odd black spots in larger hotels where they struggled a bit, but worked a treat 99% of the time. From memory i think they had a 3km range outside.

I'd be amazed if they did.

Look up the PMR446 forums for info on performance and specification. I've owned lots of these radios.

Motorola are pretty good quality.

I currently have Midland G7's which can be modified by desoldering a link inside to give 1w or 3w output.
