...or on a mid week business trip.

Any good pubs and curry houses, or any that I should avoid for that matter?

Sir Robert Peel is probably the best bar in the town centre with decent hand pulled including one from the local Church End brewery (they did the beer at SSUK14) and sometimes it has a good selection of bottled. Followed by the Market Vaults which is a Joules pub with normally 6+ hand pulled and 8 chilled ciders.. The Globe isn't too terrible.
There's a micropub opposite The Globe called the Kings Ditch. excellent beer let down by white walls and fluorescent lights. Bonds is a bit of a dive bar that attracts a diverse crowd. Beer isn't its strongest point though.
Curry houses are ten a penny with Champagne being one of the better ones even though it does look far too fancy from the outside. Dheli Divan was ok last time I went. Jalali can be hit and miss.
There's a big sports bar called Corey's but it's just that, a big sports bar. Fine if you like that kind of thing.
Da Quino Italian is very good for food. For something a bit nicer then Christopher's looks good but I've not been yet.
Don't expect too much from the town and you might enjoy yourself. Or you might not. But let us know anyway.

The Jailhouse closed down many moons ago. Something to do with drugs and getting in bother with the local plod. I think the guy has something to do with the running of the main heavy rock nightclub these days (I think it's called Rock It). Probably not a midweek business trip leisure time kind of venue though.

Lived there all but the last 8 months of my life and I can't think of a single thing to do other than ride a bike away from the place.

Portabelos is a fantastic little restaurant if you want really good Italian food that doesn't cost the earth.

If you head towards Lichfield you'll pass several pubs, but look out for The Horse & Jockey, just after the barracks.
Had some nice food in there.

Who have you upset to get sent to Tamworth ?

They originally shot Shameless there, but decided to go upmarket.

Going on a course about rubber (industrial, not slap and tickle). I'm not spending the evening sat in my concrete box by the snowdome.

Stick a porno on the tab, no one ever notices them in expense claims
