Hi, looking for some suggestions for things to do on a day trip to Oban (and surrounding area) with young kids on tow. Sea Life Centre is one, what else is worth while?

Cruachan power station? Get to learn how the hydro electric scheme works and also get a trip inside the mountain to the generating station

The bridge over the atlantic is somewhere south of Oban as well

The folly on the hill is a nice wee walk.

The hollow mountain is ace... Worth the trip down, nice drive too.

Boat stuff? We just went on the ferry to Mull IIRC, made for a nice wee trip if you like boats.

To the south
Crinan - boats
Carnasserie castle - like hogwarts
Dalriada - Place your foot in the footprint and see if you can Crown yourself king/queen of scotland and sacrifice a boar.
Numerous cairns - pretend you are dead, then go for icecream.
There are powerboat trips at easdale. expensive but good fun.
Loch sween is nice - go looking for beavers, if they haven't all been shot.
Electric bike hire in Appin
Wee ferry across to Lismore, takes bikes, go cycling. Nice wee community cafe and pictish broch to explore.

Offshore salmon farm boat trip is both interesting and sad.
Sealife centre is good and there's plenty of walking round there.
The hollow mountain was ace.

Also south of Oban is the kings rock (I think that's what it's called) where the kings of Scotland used to be crowned. I thought it was ace for some reason (it's just a big rock with a hole in it) but strangely the rest of my family weren't so enthralled about standing on a non-descript hill in the rain.

edit: aah, mentioned above.

One point to note. Don't drive really quickly into the Tesco car park with a load of bikes on the roof.

There's a height barrier.

Thought it might be useful to warn you about that one.

Possibly the best chips I've ever eaten were from the chippy half way along the front.

Walk on the hills and beaches - soooooo many places.
Day out to Tobermory on the ferry and bus (don't take the car).
Day out and walk on Kerrara.
Bridge over the Atlantic.
Go fishing.
Ferry from Port Appin and cycle round Lismore.

Like Matt said, take them fishing, plenty of charter boats operate out of Oban with the chance of some decent fish.

You could even use the kids as bait.

( I hate kids me)
