I have a Caterlite hotplate that has given up the ghost. After a bit of multi metering it appears to be the thermal fuse.
Easy, I thought. The internet is full of 110's and 105's but I can find a 108c. Google Foo is failing.
Would 110c be OK ? or should just go for a 105c, bit lower.
The details of the failed part is:
Ping Sheng
SPF 106
TF 108c
10A
250W
13Y
Any thoughts ?

Within tolerance, go for it. They're not particularly accurate anyway IIRC
PS don't sue me if your house burns down 😁
I think I will get a couple of 110's.
Unless others come in and scare me to death 😉
Thermal fuses are like the last line of defence.
It could be faulty i guess but if its gone something triggered it ie something else has caused the hotplate to overheat.
I wpuld be more concerned about that than the cut off being a little bit lower temp (which would be safer).
In a former life, last century, I worked at a place that made heating elements for kettles, immersion heaters, saunas, Baby Belling cookers, wallpaper strippers (anyone with a 80s or 90s vintage Earlex wallpaper stripper ? They had the heating elements from the place I worked) etc.
As Joshvegas says, the thermal fuse is a 1-shot item that only triggers when the 1st line of defense / auto shut off has gone wrong. Think of a bog standard auto kettle - the normal auto shuts off at 90-something degrees C (close ISH to, but not at, boiling point). There is a thermal fuse has a safety backup for if the auto shut off fails and nobody notices the kettle boiling dry. The 105 or 110 or whatever temp is only reached once all the boiling off of the water has finished ! I'd not be worried about 108 vs 110. But it could suggest another problem you need to check for rather than just swapping the thermal fuse.
Thanks guys.
The user [GF] of the plate has just confessed to covering the thing with a wet tower. Switched it off, came back and never worked again.
If I did'nt know this, I would of bought another.
Fuse is on its way 🙂
PS Is there nothing STW does not know. I'm Always AMAZED.
