I wonder if Rory Mc has been having sessions with the Arsenal psychologist?

Based on watching Arsenal's last 3 games and most of Man City's game v Chelsea, theres only going to be one winner next weekend and it won't be lego head.

Leeds v Manyoo at the toilet tonight and we've got potentially 6 first teamers out injured and yet I'm weirdly looking forward to it.

And in the lower leagues, York continue to march toward league football again with a final day showdown v Rochdale but York are now in the drivers seat.

How much of that is due to Howe - tactically sitting deeper and trying to hold a lead or by 'wrong' substitutions, and how much players making shit decisions at the end of games I don't know, but it has to get fixed and if Howe can't do that, then I'm afraid his time is running out.

Yesterday was very much a Howe/Tindall thing - the players were simply doing as instructed.

Incredibly fortunate goal in the first place but they did seem to decide to try & shithouse their way to a 0-1 win.

Then again, I might be biased as I think Howe's one of the most overrated managers out there.

However, things aren't looking great for Harrogate Town 🙁

Curious how you come to that conclusion when he took a team nailed-on for relegation to the champions league and a league cup trophy with many of the same players who were in that relegation team.

This season has been down to one thing only - the nonsense in the summer caused by Isak and the failure of the previous DoF to sort out his contract. Howe had very little to do with that, and was then forced into panic buys with almost no due diligence or detailed planning. Even then we had good runs in the cups and CL and but for a few stray results would be around the Euro places now. Howe has been failed by those above him, and failed by some players who came in for high fees and have not performed.

Have they still got the chairman's son as manager? Tough to change...

I agree, and have a huge amount of sympathy for that, but he seems to have lost something since those times, even since last year in the spirit and tenacity that wouldn't have seen them dropping late points as frequently as they have. It's a long way from a disastrous season in the grand scheme against the last 50-odd, and 'The Project' is probably still on track or ahead of where they thought they'd be. But it is a drop vs last year and it's not just points, it's not 'exciting' as they were last year. Something's not right and needs to change, and at these times that often means the manager.

Yes they do – it's a tricky one, as they play some good football, they just haven't had the breaks so I don't think the manager is really at fault – they've been punching above their weight in this division so I don't really see relegation as failure.

Anyway, Leeds are (currently) one-up at ManYu. MOT and all that 🙂

EDIT: make that two. ALAW.

That’s what I was thinking. We could easily be 3 or 4 down here and not have any complaints.

It’d be nice if we actually turned up for the second half

Oh I dunno, Jim Ratcliffe must be wishing he stayed at home. In Monaco.

Leeds playing well, hope it lasts.

2nd away win of the season.

Calvin-Lewin when fit and on form is a proper old style number 9. Difficult to handle. Leeds may well beat the drop this time.

Brilliant result against ManU - was hoping for a point at the best.

Let's hope they keep the same intensity and attitude against Wolves on Saturday and don't get caught being complacent against a team who are effectively relegated, but who also have nothing to lose which has shown in some OK results recently.

MOT / ALAW

I really enjoyed the look on Jim's face...

It has gone a bit wrong though. I thought it was supposed to be Carrick sees them right for the remainder of this season, spunks a ton of cash in the summer then gone by Christmas.

That result has also just made Spur's battle that much harder, but I don't think 36 points will be enough for Leeds to stay up.

Regarding Newcastle & Eddie Howe - I think they have suffered from playing in the Champion's League this year, should Villa make it next year I think they will suffer too. They just don't have the squad depth to maintain good form in both. Again it's very much a question of who to replace him with, should they decide his time is done? Poch maybe?

I reckon Leeds will be OK this season after that result - conflicted as I love hearing my mate whine when things go against them, but a distant family member is in their youth team.

Was enjoying what Carrick has done at United, hope this is a blip.

Something's not right and needs to change

What’s not right is that key players - Tino, Tonali and Gordon - are angling for a move for more money and two of the summers major signings - Woltemade and Wissa - have thrown their toys out of the pram. Add injuries to Bruno and Miley and there’s not a single manager in the league who could deliver results with all that going on.

It needs a major reset in the summer. Get rid of players not committed (all the above basically) get some new younger players in (Anderson would be great but probably unlikely) and start again. Whether Eddie has the stamina for that though is probably the big question.

It likely won't be but there are 6 games to go and we're 6 clear of the bottom 3 and we play 4 of the teams below us + Brighton and Bournemouth. You'd think with home games to come vs Burnley and Wolves and a game away to Spuds that we'll comfortably go past 40 points and probably finish 15th and be well clear when it comes to the final game away at West Spam.

That's my hope – if we beat Wolves, and Spurs lose to Brighton on Saturday, that makes it a nine-point gap with five to play, with one of those against Spurs. I know it is still possible that we could be relegated but, out of the four teams in the scrap, I'd rather be in our position. For me, it's between Spurs and Forest – West Ham have managed to get results recently.

Leeds should be able to effectively make themselves safe with a win against Wolves on Saturday.

Of Spurs, Forest and West Ham it could be any of them but, if Spurs lose against the leagues form team Brighton (15 points from the last six matches), then they will be staring into the abyss.

It's not been a great season but it is fascinating at both ends of the table for Premier League fans.

The opposite of another Arsenal zzzzz fest but they’re through, I guess. Probably the only side that can challenge PSG or Bayern given how different their style is.

Gonna be honest, nothing I've seen in that Arsenal game is making me think they're getting anything out of City at the weekend.

And stats suggest 72 shots over the two legs of the Madrid-Munich game in contrast.

I think the might. Park the bus, four centre halves, rely on Raya, and nick a draw. Thereafter their run in looks marginally easier.

I endured the first leg of the Arsenal v Sporting game last week (and their FA cup game v Southampton and much of their Bournemouth game) so I knew what to expect and watched Bayern instead and it didn't disappoint at all. They'll get battered by Man City at the weekend....

Arsenal won't beat Athletico - but it's nice to see the semi-final lineup with no countries having more than one team in it.

Also delighted that Real Madrid are out - thought their European luck would see them through after that first half. Pretty sure if that game was in Madrid that 2nd yellow would never have happened.

Think you're right. I'm saying 3/4-0, easily. We are crap to watch, we're so lethargic, no creativity. It's going to be such a painful end to the season.

It'd be a travesty if Arsenal won the league with Legoheads brand of anti-football. It's bloody awful to watch!

I also think they're going to get a (well-deserved) shoeing off Citeh at the weekend. You can't expect to get a result against Pep if you just play for corners and set pieces. You need to actually look to score from open play and Arsenal look like they have neither the desire or the ability to do that.

After that I can see them falling apart and Citeh going on their usual steamroller run to the end of the season.

This could well be up there with 'I'd love it if we beat them' as a way to lose a league

There were echoes of it last night I thought, I can't remember exactly what he said but he was going on about being top of the table and in the last 4 of the CL, and yet the way the press are treating them, you'd think they were in a relegation battle.

Which is true. But the reason the press is treating them like this is because they have barely turned in a performance, let alone a result that looks like a top of the league / CL semi side for ages now, they have a habit of bottling it, and they're looking like they might do it again. And that makes news.

I mean, I can't argue with much of that. The narrative of us only scoring my set pieces is a bit misleading, though. My main concern is just the lack of punch in performances. We don't look like we want to win it, in any way at all. We get slated my most people for being crap to watch which I totally agree with (although we were better early in the season). If we are that boring, why are we top of the league?

I still think we will lose it, and it will be a bottle job, especially if we go to the Etihad and just try to defend for a draw.

I get driven bit mad by the continuing excitement from commentators when ARSENAL HAVE GOT A CORNER!!!!!! As though that means we are bound to score. It doesn't feel like we've actually scored from a corner in the last couple of months - though to be fair it pretty much feels as though we haven't scored at all in the last two months!

Not looking forward to Sunday at all 🙁

Brightony- easily a winnable game against a bottom side, 3 points for the taking, but we always mess these ones up 🤦🏻‍♂️

There’s going to be one almighty managerial merry-go-round come the end of the season.

I just hope we don’t do anything stupid. Carrick has to get the job after rescuing what was a disastrous season. I still can’t believe we are where we are, given the start we had under Amorim

I have absolutely zero confidence that the combined idiocy of the Glazers and Sir Jim won’t totally **** this up though. It’s not like they've not got form.

Don’t worry. It’s United. The rants will be back, I’m sure.

in the meantime, I think the funniest thing I’ve seen all season was watching Simons celebrating his goal like he’d just scored the winner in the Champions League final, only to then look like someone had just shot his puppy when Brighton equalised, ensuring Spuds 100% record of not winning a single match all year

The drop beckons, which will be absolutely hilarious! Remember the European Superleague and the ‘Big Six’? They might yet make the ‘Big Six’. In the Championship. 😂

Aguero's celebrations were more low key when he scored in the 93rd minute of the final match of the 2011/2012 season to win City's first top flight title since 1968 taking the trophy from local rivals Man United 😉

Great result for City but, if they win at Burnley it only ties them on points with Arsenal.

Not sure how Gabriel stayed on the pitch as what he did is classified as violent conduct under the rules (even if Haaland was not hurt). Him being banned for three games would probably have finished the title race.

Pep does seem to have regenerated the City team with some excellent players. I do wonder who will step into Bernado's shoes as he really is the heartbeat of the team and is a "Pep" player in the way that Fernandinho, David Silva, KdB and Gundogan were.
