That was before my time, but I was a CFer and they had their own mass flounce off, and then there was a susequent mass flounce off from the subsequently populated forum!

the hack well it got hacked and this grew form the ashes
many folk traced the hacker and named his address
the site he represented got taken down as well.
Moral never mess with a forum populated by IT geeks.
Civil war no idea and never heard it mentioned but a proper answer would be both nice and ulikley

Civil war does indeed refer to the founders, not some flounce. Chipps and Mark were happy to explore the world of niche, while Shaun wanted to stick to talking about more "mainstream" bikes and equipment. He's still a part owner I believe but no longer involved with the running of the site (he was the original developer) / magazine

Then AA was doing the website software and was programming up a new forum from scratch (for some reason?). Then the hack happened and the forum upgrade got forced. What happened to Marmite 😆
