I've got to agree. It's the most gripping drama I've seen in ages.

+1, very good.

Reasonable body count per episode also.

*checks IQ*

Very good.

A tad complicated.

Best watched with a cup of tea rather than a bottle of wine.

Some of the dialogue was very clunky. Some of the characterisations and acting was a bit off, to the point of pushing you out of the moment. Despite this, I am glad I stuck with it. As it had some very good performances and a nicely offbeat denouement.

Won't say much more, as I assume there are people who have not seen the last episode, and will come in here going OMFG>!>! lolz SPoiLers!?!!?

With that death rate I don't think they'll be a series two 🙂

There could always be a prequel. Failing that, I would watch a program called either Gatehouse or Centrepoint 8)

hmmmmm is it on the first series, or by starting watching would i end up 4-5 series in and know enough about the characters to ruin any tension if i wanted to watch from the start?

There are seven episodes, one series. Episode seven ran last night.

It's not a multiple series type production I believe, pretty much all of the main characters are now dead 🙂

Helpful for those who haven't watched it.

Saves you 7 hours though. Mods/OP really need to get a spoiler tag in place, as it was obvious this was going to happen.

Wanted so much to like it after the promise shown in the early episodes, but as Jamie says, it fell into the old British drama trap of clunky dialogue and poor characters. So unrealistic on both counts.
Last 2 episodes literally put me to sleep, so I missed what was going on, woken only by the gunshots.
Looking forward to Luther, recorded the first one.

Yes. Because Luther is were one goes when they want realistic and low-key police dramas 😉

Whereas I found the dialogue very noir-ish. Much like watching a play where there is no filler dialogue.

It was heavily stylised - in look, plot, chacterisation and dialogue. Sure, it isn't Hitchcock, but it filled an otherwise vacuous TV gap quite nicely for a couple of months.

Luther, OTOH, looks like it's rapidly about to descend into comic horror nonsense.

I think it was originally billed as being a modern take on the noir genre. The final outcome was very noir-ish as was the way the whole thing was filmed.

I loved it, if the BBC don't let Hugo Blick put together another project with similar production values and dense plotting it would be a crime.
