MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
I've just been had for £5.30 for one pint in this here London village...
Stuff that!
I'm off to YMCA Indian hostel for what's meant to be a fine curry now.
And no more pints. You could buy a set of brake pads for that...
Last time I was in my local, the going rate was about £2.40.
try being gluten free and paying for a beer. Its classed as premium everywhere you go. Even in Newcastle I can be paying £4.80+ for a pint (if lucky enough to get something on draught) or more likely a bottle or can.
£3.20 in my local for proper real ale, South Downs..
You can get a pint in Town (Lundun) for £2.10 if you want to drink John Smiths 🤮 Thats on the Strand too.. not some pub in Harlow.
£3.10 at the local at my caravan. Anything from £4.20 to £6 a pint in Manchester city centre. I was once warned after ordering a pint of Leffe 'Sir, just letting you know it's £7.20 a pint' - I went 'no problem, jut spent a load of cash on a ring for my wife, what's another £7.20'.
£2.80 at my local.
Even in Newcastle I can be paying £4.80+ for a pint (if lucky enough to get something on draught) or more likely a bottle or can.
Lucky enough to get it on draught in Newcastle? There's loads of bars selling draught beer many of them local beersv
After your curry head a couple of blocks over to 128 great Portland Street, horse and groom. Pricing there should be less offensive to you. It's a Samuel Smith pub, there are loads in the area.
Paid £6 a pint at 20 Stories bar (roof top bar) which wasn't bad. Next day we went into a typical 'spit and sawdust' pub with work colleagues, £5.50. I said 'Bloody hell, for 50p more we could have gone for a skyline view of Manchester, not a crap pub like this'.
nothin (cider) for less than £4 within 10 miles of my home.
In Brewdog Lothian Rd right now, £5.60 for a pint of punk.
After your curry head a couple of blocks over to 128 great Portland Street, horse and groom.
I will declare now, the YMCA Indian Student Hostel sells a flippin' brilliant curry. £9 all you can eat. Fixed menu midweek. School dining hall. But by heck it's good.
Horse and Groom after then...
Never mind beer, what about wine FFS!
A pint of ale (very nice, can't remember what it was) & a large Pinot for the Mrs (good swap), £5.40 in Spoons, Knaresborough.
A large Pinot in a pub 4 miles away, £6.50.
Pint of Timothy Taylors is £3.30 at my local. Cheaper than coffee. £5.30 in London doesn't seem that pricy considering I was paying that 20 years ago. Upwards of £7 a pint is what i'd expect to pay if I was going out on the town in London these days.
£4 at my local for the ‘nicest looking lager on tap’.
We paid £25 for a spiced rum and coke and some kind of flavoured gin in Manchester last week at the hotel bar. If I wasn’t on expenses I would have wept.
Oh, also, have just back from Gran Canaria where a large glass of local fizzy cerveza was €2.50/£2.25
For reference, I worked as a Bar Man as one of my first jobs. Carling was £1.04 a pint, if you were a “flash prick” you bought Stella at £1.12.
I once witnessed a heated debate between a Carling Drinker and a “flash prick” over the merits of spending 8p a pint more on Stella because it was stronger, ended with one of the most violent clashes I’ve ever witnessed. The Landlord immediately shelved plans to introduce Red Stripe. It would have cost even more and already had a rep for Agro.
Simpler times.
Oh and don't get me started on Schooners - seems to be the 'thing' in a fair few places in Northern Quarter. £5-£6 for a glass of real ale, then you realise it's only 2/3rds
Stella
Otherwise known as a pint of wifebeater.
Dunno if I'm honest. Tend to just order, pay, drink, repeat.
I'd guess between £3.40 and £4.00 for a local brewery real ale
£3.70 for a pint of ale in my local, minus 10% with my CAMRA card.
in Spoons, Knaresborough
Did it come with a free fight?
3.80 for black sheep or bolt maker in the village pub.
6ish for a 175ml of red
£4.50 + for a decent pint round here
Between £3.20 - £3.40 for a decent pint of real ale around these parts ..
I started off young (15) when it was 12p a pint for Lorimers Scotch Ale at my local Vaux pub ...
Those were the days..😁
You need some er, Italian friends. Bar I go to is £20 a round - no matter how many drinks are in it. 😀
Price varies a lot around here, depending on the pub and the strength of the bheer.
My regular place is always changing what’s on the pumps, a round varies between £8.50 and a bit over £9 for two pints, but they have a loyalty card, and I just carry on building up the stamps until the card’s full, like last weekend, then me and my mate had four pints for free, and I think we might get another evening of free booze this weekend.
There’s a little micropub in town, opened in October last year, so far they’ve gone through around 220 different beers from over 100 different breweries!
Really nice to pop in on my way home from town on a Saturday afternoon and sit with a pint and read a book, had a dark amber last Saturday, ABV 6.0, can’t remember the brewery, but it was damned good! About £4.60, I think.
They don’t do a loyalty card, sadly.
In Brewdog Lothian Rd right now, £5.60 for a pint of punk.
Go over the road to Spoonies, same beer is about £1.50 cheaper. Makes you think...
Hanging Bat up the road sells 2/3rds of the beer they make on-premises for £6/7 - no middleman there. Makes you think...
I make my own, £1 a litre.
I make my own 40p/ltr. but thats economy of scale.
Beer in my local is from £2.50 at 3.9% to 3.05 for 6% beers on draught, and for £5 you can buy a discount card which saves you 10% for life.Only the local Spoons are cheaper, always a draught beer at 1.99,both pubs accept Camra tokens too.
Go over the road to Spoonies, same beer is about £1.50 cheaper. Makes you think…
True but then I'd be funding Tim Martin's endless Brexit BS. I'd rather burn money than do that.
My regular pint in my local is £4.80.
Worth every penny.
Sounds pretty standard but I live in Brighton. Have paid 3.50 a half for some of the lovely new sour beers that are coming out now. They are to be sipped and appreciated rather than guzzled . Suits me as I'd rather drink less but really savour it.
Anything from £4.20 to £6 a pint in Manchester city centre.
You can surely do better than that. What's the damage in Sinclair's these days, three quid?
£3 ish at my local for a good ale.
£4.50 - £5 in central Brum for a reasonable pint of IPA.
team outing to brewdog in the merchant city last week - most drinks were north of a fiver
The choice was awesome though, and the food was very good so we just put up with it.. well enjoyed it actually
Generally just stick to the guest ales in Spoons @ £2.19. Maybe drink Holts or Sam Smiths (but not in Sinclairs) in other places. Or will go in Costello's if I go to Altrincham. Don't normally spend over £3 for a pint. If someone asked me to pay over a fiver, I'd be leaving it on the bar and walking out of the place...
Have noticed our after work beers (City of London) have crept north of £5, even in Nicholsons.
Pint of “craft” beer near monument is near £6
Bit cheaper near home in Twickenham though...
in Spoons, Knaresborough
Did it come with a free fight?
Spoons is civilised, most of the fighting is in the Harts Horns up in t'Market Place.
Bathams £2.95 a pint in my local, happy to check the quality of it after most rides.
I'd consider £5.30 decent - pints after work regularly £6+ nowadays (St. Paul's/Bank).
Maybe drink Holts or Sam Smiths (but not in Sinclairs) in other places.
I've never understood why the draft beer in Sinclair's has always minged. It must be the busiest Sam Smiths house for miles, and it still tastes like piss.
Their own fake Bavarian lager used to be rough too.
Don't mind the Welly or The Mitre, but The Crown & Anchor is a class above, or below, depending on your point of view. 🙂
Holt's innit? Peace and quiet, lots of brown, blokes in caps, a certain air of naughtyness and.........
Diamond Lager!
Smells like soiled snappers soaked in nail varnish. Tastes quite nice, especially after the first couple.
Never drink more than half a dozen at once is my advice.
It's won medals apparently.
**** knows what for, arrogance?
It's the only alcoholic drink that should be classed as a halloucinogen.
Try it. 🙂
Don't even like to think what I spent in That London last weekend, "highlight" was a £5 tin of grolsch served direct from a bin full of melted ice.
Go to charged 4E for 25cl of Eurofizz at the weekend followed up by 9E for a pint of said fizz on Dieppe harbour side. I felt like I was in Miami not the armpit of France! Great weekend away on the bike though :0)
Paid £1.46 for a pint of Sam smiths ipa in a hotel bar in Mansfield a few yrs ago. I thought the bloke behind the bar was joking.
Round my way premium craft lager is £5.50 a pint or Guinness £4.50
My local pints are £5.25 in the "nice" pub my missus likes & £4.55 in the "rough" pub I like. Same brew - From Camden. Glad I only have a couple or three a week!
"tin of Grolsch" - I'd rather drink my own pish.
🙂
Yep Im all for better quality beer, but with the associated price rises it means the dives now feel entitled to charge £4 plus for a pint of fosters which rots your guts.
£3.50-£4 for a pint of cider near nearby on the outskirts of Bristol, or £4.50-£5 in the centre.
Certainly miss the £1.80 pints in the Cardiff Uni SU that provided my hydration until a couple of years ago.
I’ve never understood why the draft beer in Sinclair’s has always minged.
It's not cask conditioned for a start. It's the only SS pub I know that sells keg OB.
Just taking the piss out of its main punters, student and footy fans, if you ask me. I'll leave them to it...
Stop whining. A 'Stora Stark' here is easily 60 SEK and if you want something hipster you can be paying up to 90 SEK. Even the folköl can be over 20 SEK for a 330ml bottle or can.
That's not just here in the big city either, Uppsala is just as expensive if you are out at a bar.
It's why I rarely drink and, when I do, it's at home with friends over a meal.
Went to leaving drink in C London Friday night. Pub served Moretti so asked for a pint. It's not what I'd call an exotic beer, just a staple beverage in Italy. £5.70
It's not like there's a price label on the pumps either. Horrific. At least I had another reason to leave early
3 pints of your choice for a fiver in Tesco Express, drunk in the comfort of your own home 🙂
That is not "a pint" though is it!! 😂
When I worked in the City, I used to frequent The Old Bell Tavern in Fleet Street. I remember being horrified when I was no longer able to buy 4 pints for a fiver....
Stop whining
Funnily enough I was in Copenhagen and Malmo last week. I found Malmo a lot cheaper - went to the Street Food Market, but the interesting thing was all the beer there was under 3.5% .A flat 40 SEK (£3.30) for draught. But then saw a cafe with stronger beers, and they were heading to the 60-70 SEK.
In Copenhagen even the weakest Euro pish was about 50 DKK (£6) a pint (a "special offer" at Tivoli for the football was 300 DKK for 6 - including 5 DKK recycling on each 'glass'). So that's still £6 each. For carlsberg.
Went to Mikeller - and excellent though it was, it was pushing 90 DKK a large can - over a tenner.
Petec, as I understand it, the state monopoly on alcohol (System Bolaget) obliges people selling drinks with alcohol above a certain level to have a minimum price that cannot be less than their selling price. I also think that, less than 3.5%, the tariff is a lot lower, so beer is cheaper.
That said, Folköl (the 3.5% and below stuff, as opposed to Lättöl (lower than that - see Pripps Blå...)) is really good. Depending on where you are in the country you can get a lot of really nice local beers. Howsyourdad has one of the best breweries (Jämtlands) up near him and some of the new ones near me (Uppsala) are really good. Tempel Brygghus is one that specialises in sour beers and makes some great beers.
Oh the beer in Malmo was very pleasant. IPAs, APAs, Weisse, Mini Weisse etc. Lovely hot day, so all went down well.
was just pleasantly surprised. I'm used to needing a second mortgage to get a round in anywhere in Sweden.
Our local is typically over £4.50 for Guinness and the 'premium' lagers. Have some good micro pubs around us though that are £3.50 ish for great micro brewery beers. The increasing prices do not however seem to slow down consumption overall in my opinion, quite how some of the locals sink what they do on a nightly basis I'll never know.
The problem with Holts' is that the bitter is usually rubbish because everyone drinks diamond (if it were fresh and the line was clean I reckon it would be ok). I usually drink the bottles of 1860 that they have in the fridges next to the j20 alike.
I expect to be charged anything from 3-5quid, Manchester is crazy price sometimes
Are pubs still required by law to have the prices printed on a sheet somewhere ? You used to go in and the first thing you'd do is look for the picture frame with the prices on, printed in the tiniest typeface !
the hipster bars can be outrageous prices but at least they have them listed in fake chalk
Mate of mine won over £600 on the horses on Friday so decides he'll buy us all a drink to celebrate - 12 pints of Guinness @ Twickenham on Saturday - £84!
Hmmm I think I’m too cheap. £3.90 draught Belhaven Best and premium cider, £4.20 Trade Winds from Cairngorm Brewery and we are in the middle of nowhere in The Highlands!
12 pints of Guinness @ Twickenham on Saturday – £84!
At the stadium? You'd have got seven quid returned if you took your glasses back...
When I have seen the prices it's been for cans or bottles in the trendy Manchester bars the work lads want to drink, so I'm not even getting a full pint and the going rate seems to be about a fiver.
But I get out for a pint so infrequently that I don't really know or care how much the beer costs. I just order a round a wave my card at the machine.
£4.20 for a pint of organic Hazy V here in the Shire of Thrupp.
That is not “a pint” though is it!!
When you pour it into a pint pot, it's about the same as a 'pint' in most pubs...
A large Pinot in a pub 4 miles away, £6.50.
That’s less than £20 a bottle, which is pretty cheap.
Been in Paris this week, cheapest we could find beer was 9Euros - and that was 1664, not like we were in the ctr either, we were a good 6k from the tower.
Not read all the above, but if supermarket booze wasn't so cheap the drinks in pubs wouldn't seem so expensive.
I live in Yukon Territory and the beer is the same price straight from the brewery as it is in the pub or the liquor store. It isn't cheap, either.
10euro st Pierre. La Reunion France.
It was a shot pint too.
When you pour it into a pint pot
Exactly!
But without the joys of screaming kids running around and blokes wanting to fight you for looking at their bird (Sorry, thats my local) 🙂
"£4.20 for a pint of organic Hazy V here in the Shire of Thrupp."
Or £3.78 if you are in the club
£3.20 for a pint of OPA.
Here in inner city East Bristol I pay around £3.50 for a decent ale in the decent pub, or about £2.30 for a slightly ropey pint of Wickwar's BOB in the slightly ropey pub.
Or about £4.50 if I head into town...
Glass of nice red wine, 250ml, €1.80, 330ml of draught Estrella €1.70 life is good in rural Cataluña.
330ml? Life ain't that good.
€1.70 for 330ml is £2.50 a pint, paid double that when I was last back in the UK
£2.95, £2.60 Sunday-Thursday.
Peroni doppio malto - about it 9 euros sat in Amalfi looking out at Capri. Sometimes the price doesn't equal the value!
Here in North Sheffield, prices are £2.50 a pint in Bradfield brewery tap pubs and £2.50 a pint in stancill brewery tap. Shakespeare on the edge of Kelham Island has abbeydale deception for £2.70 a pint. Can't go wrong round here!!
The best pub in the world charge this..

It’s not like there’s a price label on the pumps either
Do any pubs still actually do this?
